"He was known as the smiling general. He could be very charming, but behind that smile was this streak of steel," said Richard Woolcott, Australia's former ambassador to Indonesia

Suharto was vilified as one of the world's most brutal rulers and was accused of overseeing a reign of corruption and, later, economic decline.

Most of the political killings blamed on Suharto took place in the 1960s. Later about 300,000 people were killed, disappeared or jailed in the fight for independence in East Timor, Aceh and Papua, human rights groups and the United Nations say.

PM I understand your statement here. As for my personal opinion Soeharto done bad thing than good thing not just to some people I know but to the whole people of Indonesia. He killed thousands and make some people lose their family and friends.

I was trilled when I read the news from the net and few friends sms me to tell me the news and all I can think was excellent. Thank God.

And to follow what people said, what is done is done... is really not working with me. I am glad that he is gone now.

Anyway, always good insight coming from you. take care.

You take every opportunity to make an issue with me - what for - leave me alone.

see her post at the top she di not need you to correct her she already apologised.

"Mila herself however, realised that it may not have been the appropriate wording long before you made it your business".

Just an information for you - it is not practice to say unkind things about the dead, however, you don't know what provoked that outburst. Feel free should I die and you feel it necessary to say bad things about me - go ahead - I am already dead so it wont make any difference to me and already I don't care.

Hashin chill out man.. Thanks for the wise reminder and I took it humbly that I did use wrong phrase before. And in my opinion it is my prerogative to celebrate somebody else death as is my own sin. And please do not bashing CB because she is agreeing with me of my opinion towards Soeharto. And as I mentioned above, I don’t care if I go to hell because my happiness of Soeharto Dies... and you know what if my family die and you said Alhamdulillah, I will not care less because you know why? Is not you who to judge in the end... it’s the GOD. And only between me and GOD alone will decide my sin and my mistake. Not in your hand.

CB, thanks for little support and hope you have a nice day besides arguing with Hashin here. Sometime ignorance is the best answer.

ok just had lunch with Mila herself, and we talked about Suharto death. I agree not to cursed dead people..coz he is dead anyway.

He is done something bad to our peoples, the one that against him. dictator right? but still he done loads of good things for my country too..thats covering all his ugliness.

Once at highschool i'm a big fans of literature book. I met this author of a book that criticize our government at Suharto time, She lost both of her hands, and her legs. So can you imagine how bad is he?

People hate him so much after 1998. My mom is one of person that is just like mila..happy on his death. Pitty you both! hehehe

Lets Forgive him..

as an indonesian who been living away from my country for nearly 10 years, i only can say 'may he rest in peace'. Like any leader in any country ... some people supporting him some people hate him. Afterall it is a politic. I couldnt say that i am suffering and living on the street during his era ... my parents still managed to brought me up and sent me to a good school, living under his era is not that bad at all. Few things i hate during his era like his opression towards chinese community in Indonesia ... but past is past. Forgive and forget.

God forbid... should something bad happen to me, you or Mila tomorrow...

and if someone were to put up a post saying alhamdulillah, such and such bad thing has happened to so and so...

I don't think any of us would be happy about, atleast I wouldn't

I don't need to be someone's father, brother or husband to point out if someone has made a mistake

I have in polite words pointed it out to Mila and she has gracefully accepted her error... what is your problem?

By anonymous• 27 Jan 2008 12:34
anonymous

Are you her father, her brother, her husband - no you are not. You are also not doing the work of God and you make it your business because believe it or not I did not see her explicity asking you to tell her what is wrong.

You have no idea what promted those feelings and neither do I, it is not my not your place to tell her what to do.

Mila herself however, realised that it may not have been the appropriate wording long before you made it your business.

By anonymous• 27 Jan 2008 12:28

It is her business how she deals with it...

and my business to point out something that is wrong...

Finally it is her business how she deals with it, not yours nor mine to criticise, this is where you Arabs get yourself involved in fights all the time.

However, you are convinced in trying to change my opinion about things -be sure I form my own opinion and unless arguments against that opinion which earn my respect and have a valid issue to my understanding I will seldom change it.

By anonymous• 27 Jan 2008 12:21

the issue here is not whether he did right or wrong...

the issue is whether it is appropriate for someone to celebrate on a public forum when someone passes away...

By anonymous• 27 Jan 2008 12:13

Opression is never right and killing of hundreds of thousands of people can have served no real purpose don't you think?

If he had done wrong, surely he had done something good too! It just matter to him that he maybe be well remembered by bad things he had done. May his soul rest in Peace!

He is not deliberated from his life and his evil - he will have to pay dearly - he is on his way to the pearly gates and he will be made accountable for all his deeds no need to worry about that.

As we say "God grinds his mills slowly but He grinds them all the time".

its an absolutely distasteful comment. Alhamdulillah literally means praise to God and is used in situations where you get a good news. How would you feel if someone says alhamdulillah when one of your near and dear ones pass away?

Maybe Soeharto was a bad person and made your life miserable... It still does not justify your comment. It is immoral to celebrate on the news of one's death and that too in a public forum.
