If this Happened to Any Body?

Today when I went to Doha Bank ATM to withdraw some money. Did the formalities and the card came out first as normal, once I removed the card and the money came out, just a while later the money is withdrawn back by the ATM. I reported to Doha Bank, they said it will take a week to solve the problem. The bank guy told me that the money will go back to the ATM if it is not collected within 5 seconds. I also checked my balance, the money is deducted from my account.
Can you please tell me, if it is sure, I can get my money back, as it is a big amount. If anybody experienced this situation? Can I trust the guys who will check the balance of the ATM and assure the accuracy for surplus amount, being withdrawn?

it can be even up to 40 days! But for sure, it will be re-credited.

But I knew somebody who experienced the other way around. Getting a withdrawal but not debited to his account. It took the bank 15 months (yes, 15 months) to discover the discrepancy. And the account is already closed as he is already working abroad! Lol!

inconsistencies are under certain rules and procedures in checking and counter checking. If it is the same bank as where your account is, maybe faster but if it is inter-bank transaction, then that where the delays comes as it is reported or passes through many channels prior to re-crediting!

lunituna but does it really takes 10-15 days for me to get my money back and for the bank to do their formalities ?

Let me explain you (I am a Banker)

The machines are desined to take the money back if they are not taken out within a certain period. It is normal to any ATM of any Bank (world wide)

The machine balnce will be reconciled after the next replenishment (re-loading of cash). The time taken depends on the usage of the machine. If it is a high usage one, you will get your money back early and if it is low usage one, I am sorry you will have to wait sometime unless the guys listen to you and do a ad-hoc replenishment.

once the cash balance is reconciled, they can identify whether there is any excess and the amount will be credited to you account.

Don't worry about the genuineness of the people doing it. They are the most trustworthy people in the bank.

Keep your receipt with you and lodge a complaint with their call center.

The same happend to me at an Arab Bank ATM in Landmark. When I called the bank, they told me I had to report it to my overseas card issuer. After a few weeks, my overseas bank wrote me that because my PIN number was used no money would be returned as the bank claimed it the amount was not reclaimed by the machine (5000 QR!).

I then videotaped myself withdrawing 50QR and let the machine suck it back in. Surely enough, even that amount wasn not refunded! Lucky for me too, as this videotape finally convinced my bank's fraud department to request the records of that machine.

After about 6 months from the day the first amount was reclaimed by the ATM, both amounts were quietly refunded to me as a "payment" on my statement. I never got an explanation or apology from Arab Bank or my overseas bank. In fact, if the amounts "paid" hadn't amounted to exactly to the 2 withheld amounts, I would have never guessed what they were for!

One piece of advice (actually 2): Don't use Arab Bank ATMs and get the moneay as soon as it appears!

Good luck getting yours back!

You need to fill in a complaint form at the bank branch. My expeirence was hilarious - i deposited cash in those cash deposit ATM machines. It took my cash, said thankyou and thats it. Nothing happened. No slip. No credit to my bank balance. Bloody hell - this was one money eating machine worse than your wife/gf!!!

Luckily this ATM was at the branch which was opened - so i didn't waste anytime. Customer Service did say something was wrong with the machine - got my funds after 3-4 days.

Thanks a lot for your views. I already logged a written complaint with the transaction details. Hope they will re-credit my money, as it is already deducted from my account.
