Swedish home goods store IKEA intends to open its doors for the first time in Qatar at the end of January, its developer Al Futtaim Group has confirmed to Doha News.

The store, which will launch a little over a month behind its original schedule, is located on Al Shamal Road just north of Doha and is the anchor tenant of the upcoming Doha Festival City project.

I can't understand the enthusiasm nor the negatism. IKEA offers good looking cheap furniture. If you are expat and you want a modern house without spending a lot ikea is ideal. even if the furniture breaks is cheap to replace. the quality of the pdoducts is dependant on the price. So as long as u know what you want ikea is good. I am also going to buy. and by the way ikea snacks are awesome.

Never had any problem with Home Centre guys be it CC, Jaidah or Alsadd. In fact they were quite helpful whenever required and had a seamless replacement within the last few days of the warranty period of the product. BTW the post is about IKEA, why drag others in here.

Obviously, one need to be a native english or else where. People need skills to make customers happy. Unfortunately, Home centre don't train their employees. Perhaps they probably teach how to turn the customers away. Hopefully, they will learn when they realize there are better products and people out there to serve the community.

And Thelonius, I don't know when you have been to Ikea last,,but I can assure you, they do not only have cheap stuff.

Maybe a little less expensive than the usual crap sold in stores here, but for that nicer and of better quality.

I think people are equally starved of decent restos and waiting for IKEA meatballs, BF, etc. too...:)

What I find really amusing about this is that Ikea is considered a little suspect as to it's quality in the UK, yet it is welcomed with open arms here as a paragon of quality. Just goes to show how starved we are of decent furniture shops in Qatar

I hate Home Centre for various reasons.

1. Poor product quality

2. They don't support their products; couple of months back, I had visted the store I brought my sofa from. In fact, they sold the sofa saying it is pure leather. However, it was not true, within one year the leather started fading. Obviously the store manager (near jaidah) doesn't want to hear the complaint. He just came out of his office and had little conversation and left. Poor customer service skills or I would say, he does not have any skills to become manager of the store.

It is very important to have more choces. With IKEA they will support their products and they sell better quality furniture with affordable price. I've been waiting to buy replacement sofa (real leather) from IKEA. Once again, it is good news to have competetors!
