I'll be in Qatar December 1st

Hoku
By Hoku

Hi all!

I leave for Qatar this coming Saturday. I am still unsure what I should pack. I will be working on Camp As Sayliyah and living in a furnished apartment.

As for clothing I pretty much will be working in jeans and t-shirts. However, what about on my down/socializing time?

Furnishings...should I just wait and buy everything there?

Also, I enjoy reading all your chatting. Do you all really meet up? If so, what do you do?

Help me! I really am not sure what to expect. I am a female going to a country I have never been before.

Maybe you can use your overly conservative clothes for winter, it’s getting colder.

Have a nice and safe stay.

Hiya

Bring a little bit of everything. Before I came here the only thing I found out and read was to make sure to dress conservatively so I brought all the wrong clothes. Eveytime I go out all the ladies in the restaurant are wearing sexy clothes and it seems ok so I started to buy some too ;-)

I travelled to Doha from Washington with 2 kids..the night flight was good.. you have movies, tv, music and yes, cocktails to help you relax abit.

I thought Qatar was amazing!! Easy to get around in, with the exception of the whicked driving. :-)

We are coming again for a visit in January for a couple weeks before we move end of the summer.

Enjoy your time there!!!

May you have a safe journey Hoku. Camp Al Sayliyah, are you going to be a contractor or with Dynacorp?

Anyhow, you will be fine here and hopefully you will have your accommodation outside the camp so you will not get really bored.

Owen did they use the word "PLEASE"

HEHEHHEHEH good morning all

[img_assist|nid=50852|title=hmm|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=|height=0]

I would rather have one rose and a kind word from a friend while I'm here

Than a whole truck load when I'm gone

mom they made me a "go-for" that day..lol..."hey owen go for this..that from the car".."hey owen go get some juice for us"..lol....kidding aside, the fishing experience was all nice specially when you hold the line with the fish on the other end...:P

just hate it when they try to pull the string out from the water (with shaking fish) towards your place...makes me frightened, specially if its a sword fish..what if it goes straight to your face!...;P

hoku..you will enjoy here...just be with the right group and you will get all the fun you need--doha style..:)

Do NOT get in the car with Vegas...reasons I will reveal later(just kidding Vegas!)

Corne..hmm..what can I say...if you go out with her, always take enough money to bail yourself out of jail..and HER keep you out of trouble..ohh goodness, you will need a short course in Corne 101 and how to avoid trouble.

I'll be more than happy to drive you around until you feel aggressive enough to drive here..just be ready to see sides of Doha you've(and I!) have never seen before...I tend to get lost but found again..just takes time!

Party clothes...nice ones, bring them, we wear them out to the clubs and yeah..we all get together and have fun. Fishing..I WANNA GO!!! Darude owes me at least one trip since I missed the other one back in June...

Cardamom..yum...love that stuff..seeds..they make coffee from it, put it in desserts, and I just chew the pods cause i like the taste.

Welcome!! Can't wait for you to get here!! Ok guys..we have to train her the right way...

Well, I'm not a coffee person at all. In Egypt, our favorite coffee is the Turkish coffee. In Doha, there is all sorts of coffee,, Turkish, Arabic coffee (very special blend made of cardamom), Coffee Beanery, Starbucks...etc.

I only like cappuccino with skimmed milk. What's your preference?

By Hoku• 28 Nov 2007 00:37

you and I are definitely going to get along. Or at least it seems you will be there to keep me out of trouble with my big mouth!!!

because your sarcastic...

and your up front with people...

i just dont know how you will be doing on driving since your coming from hawaii

i mean this place is like a death trap when it comes to driving... and unless you have some experience driving in a city... it can be difficult to get used too

Hoku...Welcome to Qatar!

Ok as far as clothing is concerned, u'll be fine wearing jeans and tshirt outside. Anything is fine as long as it's not something like a mini skirt or tiny tank top, it's just culturally inappropriate.

Furnishings, just wait till u get here, there's everything here.

And the gatherings, yep we really do meet up and do everything from coffee chats, bowling, fishing (the guys), drinks, u name it.

Don't worry, u'll be fine :D
