I am really sick of these types of messages in classifieds when you are looking for accommodation, this is unacceptable. why these people cant live with all types of nationalities and do not judge the person's behaviour instead of his background.

i know this indian family here in qatar who had put up a portion of their flat up for sharing accomodation.but they hadn't put this 'only..' factor in the ad.a srilankan couple moved in with them.and oh...did i forget to mention that the family i'm talking about are strict vegetarians?so the lankan couple moves in and the contract read that they'd have to share the kitchen.

the lady of the indian family almost went crazy when she saw the young wife of her tenant frying fish in her kitchen.her home which once smelt of spices and curries was now smelling of delicious fried king fish!she didn't say anything to the girl for fear of hurting her.the indian lady discussed the matter with her husband and he said that fish is an essential part of every sri lankan's daily diet and that they could not possibly tell them not to cook fish.

the indian lady could not accept the entire idea and stopped going to the kitchen when the other lady was around.she'd do funny things like burning incense in the kitchen after the other lady had left....to ward of any smells.by and by,the sri lankan couple felt uncomfortable themselves and after an uncomfortable stay of 9 months, they moved out.

that's the way it goes.....we all have our own cultures and living styles.no matter how independently we stay, when we have a sharing accomodation,at least occasional rendezvous is bound to happen.so,for the sake of comfortability,it's best to live around people whose culture matches with yours.

and about mingling with other nationalities.....there are so many ways to do that other than staying under the same roof........

Keep smiling!

THIS FORUM HAS BEEN ONE THAT ATTACKS ON RACE. i thought this forum started as a question on how to write a proper ad on the classifieds. an ad that doesnt seem "racist" to defensive-overly-sensitive-stupid-looking-people.

i had to stop reading the rest of the posts....you guys are just racists. its sad, just when i thought people here are educated and wise.

what good do u ever get in stereotyping people??

u attack them so ud feel better about urself? how arrogant of u.

im not taking any sides on race here, im talking generally about being stupid. my point is..

like this one time..i have this b*tchy acquaintance, then over drinks and good music..she told me, "you know what..i dont like ugly people, they have a bad personality!". i was really disturbed by that. wtf?

its human nature, i know. people talk sh*t or look down on other people just so that they could feel superior or feel better about themselves.

to alexa,

sorry i got a little overboard....

i was just telling prettyme to not get carried away with her comments.

and to all concerned, if we all can just live and let live and don't give much fuss with the way people want to conduct with their own way of life... certainly, problems won't arrise. as long as we abide with the golden rule: "don't do unto others what you don't want others do unto you"

but as we can see here, once a person gets to bring about issues that may bring forth a bit of serious predicaments, that is when people can't just sit and watch...and exchange of words can be nasty sometimes...

if we can all just live and let live....

ikaw ba naman na mula sanggol pa lang eh ganun na amoy ng tatay at nanay na nagaaruga sayo.. siguradong masanay na ilong mo sa ganun amoy.

the mere fact that you cannot express your personnal views on a proper manner by singling out two groups here, goes to show something there...

so how could you expect people to mingle with someone like you....

and being such a person, don't you think that if they accept you... most probable thing to happen is you'll just provoke arguments at even the least trivial instances.

that is the main reason most filipinos try to avoid mingling with others on rented place. cultural and religious differences can become a big issue sometimes.

better avoid "problems" head on rather than deal with it later.

...speacially with foods that we eat, others cannot deal with what the others eat and that is bothways. there really can be so many issues that can bring about many arguments.

would you really like to live with that?

at least we filipinos spell proper nouns right, doesnt matter whereever in the world you bring us to. i dont doubt your "discoveries". i doubt your responses. what you were implying ("tested countless philippinas", "I didn't mind paying for little things like Perfume for getting the comfort in return.") is that you can easily sleep around with filipinas and they wont mind. lemme tell you this: THEY WILL MIND! and they wont sleep with you in the first place! hahaha.

bombay is in india.. so that makes you an indian. duh! and bombays in the philippines are known for their whatever you call that thing on their head (pardon me for my ignorance), with umbrellas and riding their craggy motorbikes vending loans (20% INTEREST!) to victimised market vendors. so yes they do borrow money from you guys.. but they make sure they took a bath before they do so.

as for me, one non-negatiable factor why we filipinos prefer to live together is for hygenic reasons. i say non-negotiable coz no matter how much Riyals you pay me, i aint letting you in my house, more so in my room, if you smell like...sweaty armpits, perhaps. :)

we are very OC when it comes to cleanliness, both in the house and with our body. and speaking from experience, other nationalities (NO OFFENSE PLS!!!) dont smell as good as we do. hehe. kabayans, agree?? ;)

and waking up to the smell of tuyo, sinangag and sunnyside-up is waaaayyy better than that of curry powder, cardamom, and coconut oil greased-body. again, that is MY preference...

lastly, with regards to the car ad... this will generate a less radical response from y'all i hope - i think the former owner just wants to convey the message that if the car is owned by filipinos (and not some lunatic driver, if you get my gist), the car is well taken care of, has less scratches and bumps on the sides; the interior is clean and doesnt smell of cigar; and (nope, there is no karaoke inside, or bobbing heads on the dashboard - that last one is for another nationality!) the fittings are not substandard. ;)

hope these give you a glimpse to filipino culture and PREFERENCES! talking about learning another culture! ;)

Indians are looking for Indians to talk in Indian languages and Philippinos are looking for Philippinos for the same reason. There are some society issues as well which will be difficult to get mingled. If you are a person speaking Arabic or English there might be people already in that flat or accommodation who neither understand or speak Arabic. English is an International language but most of them does not use it for day to day life at home. Those guys who are sharing a flat or accommodation will be looking for people of the same nationality and language to avoid communication problems and issues from it.

that its not very hard for them to sell things if same nationalies would buy. because for them car is like their babies. they dont want other nationalities to have it they want same as they. because you know specially westerners and europeans its not a big deal for them to have cars. but for us its like investing a huge amount of money just like buying a house.

so in the ads says a "filipino owner" it means its clean, well preserve.

No actual subject was being discussed b/w Westerners n' Indians/Filipinos, buddies. Never track the situation negative.

There are quite much asian nationalities ie: Afghanis, Bangalis, Pakistanis, Srilankis, Nepalis etc. but I believe, realsome had a point towards the only two Indians/Filipinos nationalities, gets mentioned normaly in classifieds. His Question is....WHY IS THIS SO?!

Let me tell you a pretty real issue running on peak these days in Qatar. If you give a look to the Real Estate brokery field or situation, would find lots of Indian brokers. They do prefer to have Indian tenants, as of their own natioanality or Filipinos, as of they are quite disciplined, well-mannered & keep their livings much clean from the rest do. No broker does care if the tenant dance, invite friends or celebrates event parties.

No Doubt! A call for Indians or Filipinos is a stupid & foolish act but is never cared by brokers nor owners. They call this a business.

I do appologize, if sum1 hurted...!!

its not disgusting to live with the same group rather than others. maybe for others its OK! especially for westerners and other european peoples. they are kind OK! but sometimes Arrogant people because they felt really superiors if they in front of other 3rd World people. thats why Filipinos and Indians like to find same as them. so that after a long tiring day in work which by the way you mingle with other nationalies. its better to stay relax in your home and mingle with you friend same nationals as you. especially you can express you self and enjoy talking to them about work, life after a tiring day.

Taking an accommodation means its for a long time. Adjusting with new people. If they are different nationalities it is hard to adjust in a group accommodation. So better, all philipinos in one accomodation all Indians in one accomodation, all arabs in on accommodation. This stuff works good, as it is proven from experience of different people till date.

You can broaden your horizons by mixing with other nationalities socially etc but come on, no one has a right to tell you who to live with, if its what you want.

Not everyone who comes here comes from such a fantastic background where they've traveled lots and come into contact with so many other cultures that they are very accepting. A lot of people are here (especially Indians and Filipinos) because they have no choice and they have families to feed, if they want to feel like their still home, let them.

I don't think we should be harsh with realsomeone, yes the word disgusting is a bit harsh, but English is presumably not his first language. Also, speaking as someone who just tried to find accommodation it really is difficult and frustrating to try and find a place when seemingly everyone is looking for someone of their same race.

I agree with you Labda, but the heading for this subject should be changed. Disgusting is not a proper word.. he's disgusted about what? People with the same nationalities living together?

I think it's all about preference. IMHO.

I agree that it can be irritating, especially to those who really don't mind living with other races/cultures etc. However I do understand the people advertising's desire for comfort in their home.

I disagree somewhat. I think realsomeone is passionate about certain things, and its his right to voice his say. I feel he is not very accepting of "the West" particularly and his opinions are somewhat skewed but its his right to have a difference of opinion so long as it doesn't cross the line. He is not mainstream and he choses to stick to what he believes. I personally have never had a problem with him. I think he's rather biased but I'm always open to different views and having differed with him on certain topics Iv found him quite respectful.

This is MY personal opinion.

By Loulsy• 9 Oct 2008 11:19
Loulsy

You can use the word unfair, not logic, irrational, but you cannot use the word disgusting because it certainly does not lead to consequences such as puking!

use the correct terminology so that you do not insult ppl unduely!

now in response to your sentence of : "where does the indians and philipinos want to live the other minority nationalities?"

I'm sure u mean where do the Indians and Filipinos want the other minority nationalities to live" and i will say just because a Filipino/indian has an apartment and want to rent out a room in it.. or have a villa and want to rent out a set of rooms to fellow countrymen it doesnt not mean that Qatar is suddenly devoid of available residences! I'm sure you can find a villa/flat/studio or whatever when you look.. exactly how they did when they looked..

and once u find what u want u can place an add and invite all nationals to live with you EXCEPT for Filipinos and Indians since according to you they already have so many available places!

Its just because of the simple fact that most of the people are comfortable only with people from their own culture.

These kind of ads are mostly for part of villa or sharing etc. I don’t think real-estate agents advertise with nationality preferences. I once saw such an ad and asked the guy the same question.... he told the landlord of the building thinks that only That particular nationality people will take good care of his property and wont do any illegal things in the premises. He said that from his experience.
