For those of you who may not have seen this:

To the attention of all Canadians in Qatar:
(français à suivre)

1- PASSPORTS:
Due to circumstances beyond the Embassy's control, there has been a recent delay in the processing of passport applications in Canada. Until the end of October 2007, passports will no longer be delivered in the formerly prescribed standard time of 15 business days.
Passport renewal could now take up to 25 business days to arrive.
Please plan your renewal accordingly.

2 - NEW WORKING HOURS:
As of September 1, 2007, the Canadian Embassy is open from Sunday - Thursday, 7:30am - 3pm
Consular section is open to the public Sundays, Mondays and Thursdays 9am - 12noon.

3 - REGISTERING WITH THE EMBASSY:
If you receive this email, you are registered. The Embassy is always looking for new volunteers to be wardens.
The Embassy Warden Network is designed to facilitate communications between the Embassy and resident Canadians, in the event of a local crisis such as internal disorder or natural disaster. This system is an integral part of the Embassy's contingency plan for responding to emergency situations. It is intended to provide a communication network through which the Embassy can provide information and advice concerning safety precautions and, as a last resort, evacuation measures. Hence, Wardens allow the Embassy to convey information and advice to Canadians easily and quickly through known channels, particularly in the early stages of a developing crisis situation.

You, as a member of the Canadian community, can assume the role of Warden or Deputy Warden on a strictly voluntary basis. Wardens have no official status, and receive no remuneration or reimbursement for expenses. Their role would principally be to act as:

General roles:
1- A known point of contact between the Embassy and Canadians in their area for the purpose of conveying information and instructions from the Embassy.

2- A communication link with Embassy; they relay information and advice from the Embassy to their district.
3- An information resource person for the Embassy, whose role would be to retain an up-to-date list of Canadians residing in their area of responsibility through timely verifications of registrants' information.

In the event of an emergency:
4- To assist in planning and supervising the withdrawal of Canadians from their area to a designated evacuation point in consultation with the Embassy and in conformity with its instructions .

Once again, we reiterate our appreciation for your community-minded spirit in volunteering to become a Warden/Deputy warden. So if you are still interested kindly e-mail us at this address:[email protected] indicating the following:
- Surname, name.
- Address and telephone number.
- Postal address.
- e-mail address.

With all of the questions we had about Canadian passports and visas a while ago I thought it was worthwhile to post.

But thanks for posting for the benefit of those who haven't received it.

Stay safe all.

Perfection does not exist. The question therefore, is: what level of imperfection are we willing to settle for?
