Just upgraded my 3gs from 4.0.1 to 4.1 iOS yesterday...the installation went find however i'm not able to get it to connect to Q-tel now. How do i go about this?
U of Mich, so far i've only tried the wifi at home and works perfectly without any glitches. Dont use bluetooth that much so cant say however i'm pretty sure there should not be any issues with it.
by reboot i mean for ANY reason you need to restart your device, battery drain or any app that requires you to restart holding the power+home etc will not work with the above procedure. You will HAVE to connect the phone to the pc run Redsnow and it will have an option there to reboot the phone(its just a check box) Since this is a very early unlock option out there, everyone says to wait a while till a proper easier unlock gets released.
The above video is to unlock any iphone that got upgraded to baseband 05.14.00 or 05.15.00 etc as you were saying there was no unlock available (giving me a minor heart attack)
Tricky step that i was facing was if you try to do it without the ipad firmware chance are it wont work, so i suggest you might as well download the firmware and follow all the steps given in the video (worked for me)
By saying reboot what do you mean? I think you meant to say Power Cycle (meaning if you battery get drained you have to unlock it with Redsn0w)...RIGHT?
So you have new OS4.2 with baseband 06.15.00 now and it was simple to unlock with the help of above video. Is there any tricky step you have to be carefull about?
Khanan you wont lose any of your apps if you make a back up of them and restore. I have not lost anything. The only issues with the upgrade was that damn baseband which got upgraded along with the 4.1 ver.
Anyways you are not missing much with the upgrade so if you dont need it dont upgrade :P I like to make my life complicated thats why i did it LOL
Just so the others know, doing the above mentioned unlock for your phone would void any warranty you have with Apple. For those that have factory unlocked phones this shouldnt be a problem for upgrades.
Anyways while i was trying, it still didnt work for me with the 4.1, so i followed all the steps mentioned in the video down to the letter and at around 1.00am finally got it working :P
One draw back is that this unlock is still in the early stage so everytime you need to reboot you will have to use Redsn0w to do so, which means connecting your iphone to the pc and doing a reboot from there. Else everything else is fine.
Ok just an update finally got the phone back on track. U of Mich, there is now a unlock for the 4.2 iOs currently running on 4.2 and base band 06.15.00. Follow the above link I posted should work fine took me a while but it's finally out and running enjoy
Thanks a lot chingching...i might have to give that friend of yours a call if i cant figure this out myself...which can only happen when i go home now. :P

Now if i downgrade it to 5.12.01 will my phone work with Qtel?
had the same experience before, originally had os3.0 version but unknowingly upgraed to 4.1 version when i connected my iphone 3gs to itunes in my computer...but luckily i have a friend who unlocked and jailbreak my iphone again :) ...so don't be in despair, call this number, he will solve your problem 55092957
YES you can downgrade to OS4.0.1, but firmware that is 05.14.02 NO.
Operatiing System (OS) and Firmwars(Baseband) are two different things. you can play around with OS but once firmware(baseband)upgraded to 05.14.02, it can not be change as of NOW.
I am sorry but that is correct you can not use your phone until there is a new tool become available on internet.
U of Mich...what are you saying i cant go back to my previous iOS???? I'm sure there is a way out of this, just want to go back to my previous 4.0.1 thats it. there's nothing great with the 4.1 release anyways :P
Whats this about upgrading the baseband? WTF is that?
Too be honest Smoke, I am no expert on this. But by keeping this thread alive there is a chance that someone who knows more may come along. If you can revert however, that would be the first thing I would try.
are you saying there's no jailbreak for the 4.1? Coz there's a couple of guys here in office running the 4.1 iOS. Anyways can i downgrade back to the 4.0.1??
Smoke buddy where did you get your phone from? Mine is a Vodafone 3GS and I am on Virgin Mobile (which as we all know is Qtel) SIM, and I successfully upgraded to 4.1 without any problems.
Did your's come from an unofficial supplier, has it been jail braked?

Please read reviews on that website also about fuzzyband.
Only thing you can do is to pray that Dev team come up with solution soon.
Thanks a lot chingching...i might have to give that friend of yours a call if i cant figure this out myself...which can only happen when i go home now. :P
This is the reason I am not a fan of Apple Products... :(
Well this is what i found on the net:

You want to make sure that it was upgraded to OS4.1 not OS4.0.1.
Do you remember if your firmware was updated to 05.14.02?
Which iphone you have is it 3G or 3GS or even 2G?
had the same experience before, originally had os3.0 version but unknowingly upgraed to 4.1 version when i connected my iphone 3gs to itunes in my computer...but luckily i have a friend who unlocked and jailbreak my iphone again :) ...so don't be in despair, call this number, he will solve your problem 55092957

IPSW files would not get that done.
Been there done that.
Follow this link
http://www.theiphonewiki.com/wiki/index.php?title=Firmware
and scroll down till you see the 3GS firmware.
Then download the IPSW file and research how to unlock it.
As per the link it is now possible to unlock it (use any carrier) and jailbreak it (install any software)
Good luck
Hello Smoke,
FirmWare 05.14.02, can not be unlocked for other carrier, once phone upgraded to os4.1 its firmware automatically changed to 05.14.02.
There is no way you can down grade to previous firmware.
phone with os4.1 can be jailbroken with limera1n, carriee unlock is not possible as of now.
Dev Team is working on it but no solution as yet.
TB thanks for keeping this thread alive....
Smoke try it the old way...
1. First Keep the thin side of the phone verticle on your Desk
2. next tilt it at an angle towards your left
3. try connecting... it might start connecting....
4. If it doesnt try step 1 through 4
I know that should work because that is how the Sardar I know starts his Scooter ....ROFL

Oh dear.... not good Smokey.... it may need another jail break :(
bought it from someone here on QL, it was jailbroken before running on version 4.0.1.
Smokie's is the (Cha)i Phone... made in China :-P
