Apple has released the new firmware for iPhone version 3.0. The update is available thru iTunes. If your phone is not factory unlocked then do not update the firmware until an unlock method is released.
jdylan, " Apple says if your local carrier supports MMS,..." The local carriers mentioned here are the carriers who have a contract with apple for iPhone. In this case the settings are already included in the configuration files along with the OS. e:g Etisalaat is now the official carrier for iPhone so the carrier settings for MMS, Voicemail etc. for Etisalaat are already configured in the phone.
Which is stupid. Apple says "if your local carrier supports MMS, you will have MMS capabilities". Well, Qtel does, and I don't. Guess I'll just jailbreak it again and use MMS from Cydia.
Try rebooting your phone. If this does not work then remove the SIM card reboot and insert the sim card. I updated my phone to 3.0 without any issues. Also please reconfirm if the phone is factory unlocked, You can do this by checking if your model Number is in the list below. ( This is an old list and Australia is not included)
Thanks, but my phone is factory unlocked so I don't think that is the problem.
When I go into settings->general->network-> cellular data network all the fields are empty, but I can't remember if it had something there before the upgrade... Aaaargh!!!
go to the market near the souk wehre there are loads of mobile phone shops - went yesaterday as i have a friend in US who is buying me the new i-phone soon. The guy said for me to call him when i get it to check if they can unlock it - they can unlock the previous version but not sure if they have the software available for the 3.0 version. What are you saying, you had MMS before? It was never on the iPhone.

Let us know if MMS works. Could you post the settings QTEL gave you?

According to the model number I have an Italian phone... didn't know that before!
Rang qtel and got the settings so now I am back on the net. Still don't know how to get MMS to work. Perhaps I'll try to reboot for that one...?
Thanks!
