iPhone users, throw away your Turbosims now !

By anwarpp

Both the jailbreak and software unlock is now out for iPhone 3g with firmware update to 3.0. No need for Turbosims any more (until you mess up by accepting another update from Apple).

If you have soft-unlocked the iPhone on 3.0, please do NOT update to 3.1, which will be released by Apple shortly. You will LOSE YOUR UNLOCK ! Wait for the updated version of redsn0w and a custom .ipsw file from the iPhone dev team to do the upgrade.

If nothing else works, also try doing a "full restore" (press Shift then click "Restore" in iTunes), and point to the 3.0 firmware file. This will ensure that you are starting in a pristine condition. Then do the regular drill of redsn0w + ultrasn0w and see if it gets resolved.

Are you sure it got installed correctly ? I know of at least 15 successful unlocks using ultrasn0w, and more importantly, I do not know of any failures.

Please confirm the following.

1) Ultrasn0w is really installed and carrier selection is set to automatic.

2) Reboot after installing ultrasn0w.

3) Try removing the Qtel sim and putting it back, while the phone is on.

4) Make sure you are not using any turbosims. With ultrasn0w, you do not need any turbosims.

Run the ultrasnOw program and reboot your iPhone with sim card inside. If your sim card has a pin try disabling it.

1) Update iTunes to 8.2 (which you have already)

2) Update to OS 3.0 from iTunes (which you have done already). Basically, just click on the phone's name on the left in iTunes, and choose "Update" (not "Restore"). iTunes will download a 235MB file named "iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw" and upgrade the OS of the iPhone to 3.0.

3) Download redsn0w 0.7.2. The locations are available at the bottom of the post http://blog.iphone-dev.org/post/126908912/redsn0w-in-june . Assuming you are on Windows, unzip the file somewhere.

4) Sync your iPhone once with iTunes, then shutdown iTunes and turn off the iPhone, but keep it connected to the PC via USB.

5) Run redsn0w.exe from the unzipped folder. Click "Browse" and point it to the firmware file "iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw" located at "C:\Documents and Settings\YOURLOGIN\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Software Updates" (this is on XP,on Vista it is around C:\Users\YOURLOGIN\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\, just search for .ipsw files if you cannot find it). Change YOURLOGIN to your windows account name. redsn0w will verify that the file is valid, and allow you to proceed further. Otherwise, you have picked the wrong file.

6) Proceed through redsn0w, just remember to NOT install "Icy" at this time (there are some issues with it). Just install "Cydia" only. The steps are something like this: http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4301

7) Once you are done following the prompts from redsn0w (like hold power button for 3 seconds, hold power and home bottons together for 10 seconds and hold home button alone for 30 seconds), you will see the jailbreak process finish.

8) After the phone boots, open Cydia, go to "Manage" at the bottom, and then choose "Sources" from the middle. Click "Edit". Then "Edit" become "Done" and an "Add" button is available on the top left. Choose "Add". Enter the URL "http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com" (note that it is a "zero" not an "oh") and click "Add Source". You can see the steps decribed here : http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=4253

9) Click on the newly added Source, and you will see "ultrasn0w" as a package that can be installed. Install it, and restart the iPhone. It will pick up a Qtel signal after the reboot.

Note that nobody is responsible for any of this, except yourself ;)

Most importantly DO NOT UPDATE when Apple comes out with a new version to block the software unlock (something like OS version 3.0.1). If you want to upgrade, it should be done with a custom .ipsw file.

In fact, it is a bad idea even to update iTunes when you are using an unofficial phone.

Thanks for confirming that we are all yet to see the mobile data plans activated by Qtel on a regular postpaid voice sim. So the wait for an affordable data plan for QTel mobile services continue....

Wonder what Vodafone has in store for us... Since they will officially release iPhones, it would come with a sensible data plan also, we hope.

Well,The data sim card works in an iPhone for broadband Internet access and I hope QTEL will be able to provide this service on regular SIM card. I wish someone sensible at QTEL answers this.

I mean not the iPhone tethering part, but just enabling the "Mobile Broadband Shahry" data plans on a regular voice sim ?

Apparently multiple calls to 111 has not helped. They seem to not know of any such option. The moment you talk about this, they point to the USB dongle, and "confirm" that this has nothing to do with mobile phone data plans.

According to QTel, this is enabled on special "data only" sim cards. Certainly a let down at a time when Qatar is looking forward to being a leader in Internet penetration and usage.

anwqrpp, We could have the wireless broadband service ( USB Dongle) enabled on the regular SIM card instead of the separate SIM and use the broadband connection on the iPhone and on Laptop thru iPhone.

Qtel data charges through iPhone (using "Mobile Broadband" or "Mobinet") is out of this world !! Using their USB dongle based solution is much much more affordable and convenient (including the so called "unlimited" plan).

He just commented on twitter:

planetbeing : "Feeling increasingly angered and litigious toward quickpwn.com. They want ppl to w8 & use "their" new jb, stealing our brand and our code."

planetbeing : "Quickpwn.com has enough ad revenue from MY code to give out a free 3GS. I know I don't even have the money to buy one for myself."

QuickPwn.com seems to have built a ad-business around this guy's work/code.

Good news for iPhone owners. If we can get the tethering feature working with Qtel it would be great.

QuickPwan Team

Jailbreakers: I know a lot of you here are waiting on a QuickPwn 3.0 download for the iPhone OS 3.0 firmware, but unfortunately Dev Team has decided to retire the QuickPwn program. QuickPwn.com is working on making it and plans to have the QuickPwn 3.0 jailbreak released by Friday this week (possibly earlier, but we don’t want to get your hopes up). If you’re using iTunes 8.2, the current QuickPwn will not work on it but we are working on fixing this in QuickPwn 3.0. If anyone has experience creating jailbreaking/unlocking software and would like to help with the QuickPwn 3.0 jailbreak please e-mail webmaster[@]quickpwn.com.

iPhone unlockers: The Dev Team is working very hard on getting the ultrasn0w iPhone 3G unlock out to us. They’re making good progress! According to MuscleNerd, ultrasn0w will also support Pin-locked sims. Pin-locked sims are the sim cards that require you to enter a code before using them (usually corporate phones are forced to use these sims). The Dev Team has no ETA for the ultrasn0w unlock but they’re working hard to bring it to us.

To keep up to date with the latest jailbreaking and unlocking news subscribe to the QuickPwn YouTube channel and follow @QuickPWN on twitter. If you have any questions or need help with anything please post in the QuickPwn forums. I’ll make a post here once the ultrasn0w unlock or QuickPwn 3.0 jailbreak has been released. Thanks for your patience.

i am waiting for Quickpwn only dont want redsnow or ultrasnow
