A prominent scholar of Urdu, Professor Dr Syed Taqi Abedi will be the keynote guest speaker at third annual Iqbal Seminar (in Urdu) being organized by Iqbal Academy Middle East (IAME) on Saturday 28th November 2015 at L’etoile Hotel, Doha at 7.00pm. Iqbal Academy Middle East (IAME) was founded by Qatar-based writer, researcher, and literary critic Faisal Hanif in 2013 to promote and disseminate the work of Allama Sir Muhammad Iqbal (1877-1938), a Persian and Urdu poet, a philosopher, and a visionary from the subcontinent. Iqbal is considered one of the most important literary figures in Urdu literature--arguably the greatest after nineteenth century classical Urdu and Persian poet Mirza Asadullah Khan Ghalib. Though Iqbal is best known as an eminent poet, he is also a highly acclaimed "Muslim philosophical thinker of modern times". In much of South Asia and Urdu speaking world, Iqbal is regarded as the “Poet of the East”. While he is a national poet of Pakistan, in India he is remembered as the author of the popular song “Saare jahaN se acha Hindustan hamara / Better than the entire world, is our India”

The guest speaker in Iqbal seminar, Prof Dr Syed Taqi Abedi is a Canada-based physician and literary personality. Professor Abedi is an intellectual, writer, researcher and poet who authored more than 55 books in the field of Urdu language and literature (both poetry and prose) in Urdu, English and Persian. He is widely cited scholar in Urdu literary research by critics and researchers. His major research work is on classical poets from nineteenth century including Mirza Ghalib, Mir Anees, Mirza Dabeer, Altaf Hussain Hali, and twentieth century poets Allama Iqbal, and Faiz Ahmed Faiz.

Professor Abedi is a visiting professor at three universities, and recipient of several prestigious awards from India, Pakistan, USA and Canada including Award of Outstanding Contribution to Literature, in 2001, from Multiview Bureau of Greater Toronto, Canada, “Writer of the Year” Award in 2003 by Eastern News Canada, Award of Excellence in 2003by Idare-Faiz-Adab Washington, USA, Allama Iqbal Award of Excellence –2003 by the Government of Ontario, Canada, Award of Distinguished Service and Contribution to Urdu Literature – Aligarh University Alumni, New York City, 2005, Award of Excellence for Literature and Research Work – International Literacy Council, Pakistan, 2005, Valuable contributions to Urdu language, Legislative Assembly of Ontario, 2006, and many more.

Professor Dr. Syed Taqi Abedi will be lecturing on the topic: “Importance and Utility of Iqbal’s Message in Today’s World” in Urdu on Saturday 28th November 2015 at L’etoile Hotel, Doha at 7.00pm. Seminar is open to all. Children above 12 year of age, and ladies are particularly welcome.
