AUSTRALIA's World Cup qualifying group has been thrown into chaos with rivals Qatar facing a possible three-point deduction for fielding an ineligible player, according to the Sun-Herald newspaper yesterday.
The newspaper said both Iraq and China have filed complaints with world governing body FIFA over Brazilian-born Marcio Emerson Passos, who represented Qatar in their 2-0 win against Iraq last March.
Passos represented Brazil at youth level, making him ineligible for Qatar under FIFA regulations, according to the paper. Those rules state that teams fielding ineligible players will retrospectively forfeit the game with the three points awarded for the win handed to the opposition.
Before yesterday's game, Qatar and Australia were level on seven points at the top of the group with Iraq on four and China three.
A FIFA spokesman told The Sun-Herald that it acknowledged Qatar had fielded an ineligible player but the Qatari Football Association had not been at fault.

jasmine are you a real pilot :)
best wishes for iraq next week
aw, but i love sebastian even if he is from uruguay...
to jasmine_pilot ,
sebastian is payed to play for Qatar like many other
so they play for money, but the player of iraq play for thier country and they will win.
What makes even more complicated is that 8 of the Iraqi players of the national team play in the Qatari clubs
Thats the spirit
A good game is what we want to see
All players in the Iraqi team + Coach are Iraqis,
Cant say the same about the Qatari team..
again,
may the best team win
as long as they both represent this part of the world
Math 4 All
Not like that,
Iraq: scored 1 less goal than the number of goals they have suffered
Qatar: scored 2 less goals than the number of goals they have suffered
So, if they tie, the above stats stays the same, and Iraq goes up
If Qatar wins the game, they go up
Only 2 teams can go up, Australia already up.
no, no he was an import.....
remember Qatar won over Iraq, it was a game worth seeing, the best so far, it was a close fight.. but may i ask, is sebastian from Qatar?
So Iraq has one on Qatar. So if Qatar scores one goal, do we go onto penalties or do we both succeed?
Either way, all countries in this group really put their heart in the game :)

Whoami, if they tie in points (game wins and losses), the difference in goals a team scored and scored at what decides.
Qatar scored 2 Iraq, 1 China, 1 Australia
scored at 6 Australia
difference -2
Iraq scored 3 China, 1 Australia
scored at 2 Qatar, 1 Australia, 2 China
difference -1
Iraq goes up f it is a tie
I thought we both scored 5 goals.

whoami did u count the goals ? i think if it's a tie , Iraq will qualify for the next level.
Why does Qatar have to win against to Iraq to qualify?
If it's a tie, Qatar and Iraq BOTH go through.
Both teams are identical.
Both teams have 7 points
Both won 2, both lost 2, both draw 1

Men & football = Women & Shopping
My the best team win
Go Go Go
Math 4 All
So far, Australia has already qualified regradless of the next match with China.
Qatar and Iraq next Saturday, for Iraq to qualify a tie is enough, for Qatar they must win.
China is already out
mmmm....I don't think so, I asked my hubby this question earlier and his answer was confusing so I didn't ask again........
Go the aussies...
Hope not..
shame about Qatar?
Wao! go on....
