ITT mechanic in Qatar

I recieved an offer from ITT to be a mechanic in Qatar..the basic package is 72hrs per week..1 day off..making about 80k/year. Paid shared housing in a villa, $30US per day for food and living. 2 weeks vacation with paid flight home.

I'm hoping to find someone that has done this..or is currently. Would like information on working conditions..ie indoor outdoor, labor intensity etc..and if this sounds like a comparable package to what they recieved.

Broken down hourly this is actually very poor wages compared to what I am making now..but with the income being tax free and the daily expenses being paid it seems as though I could save a ton of money over the course of a year. Anyone have any experience with this. I'm somewhat afraid that I will get very bored and end up spending a ton of money just to stay sane..as tends to happen in the military, and I have no intention of working 12 hr days 6 days a week and coming home with nothing. I am also excited about to the opportunity to be introduced to a new culture and have access to the surrounding cultures. Is it easy to get out of town to a new place on a two day holiday...good price for flights or expensive?

Thanks in advance for any information/advice, and feel free to email me anything that I might find helpful.

You will be working the APS5 contract and they do work 6 Days/72 Hours a week. I work on a different contract here that only works 48 Hours/week, but I have a Villa (shared), Clubhouse (Pool, Gym, Tennis, Squash, Billiards), so entertaining myself does not cost me much. Anyway, I enjoy working for ITT but your experience may differ from mine...

I was speaking to the hourly wage..as in..if I were to work 72hrs a week I would make 80k. They didn't mention a severance package, I will need to ask them about that. When your friend was over there was he able to save most of his income, or did he spend alot of it entertaining himself? In the original post I read you mentioned you were going to working 5 days a week, was that a typo?..2 days off a week would make all the difference in the world to me :)

The recruiter spoke mostly about the humvee refurbishing, but didn't mention any particular part of the assembly I would be working on..so I'm not sure about that.

Any chance they would let me bring my dog you think?

Thanks again for the info

Well you forgot one thing...they also give you three weeks of severence pay (that is where you take how much you get paid, and they give you three weeks worth of pay for not working, at the end of your one year contract) That equals almost $5,000 USD in addition to the 80,000 you made that year. Did ITT tell you that they make you sign a one year contract? Then at the end of the contract they give you your severence pay i was just talking about then you have the option to resign another contract if you want or not. Plus I highly doubt you made anywhere near this amount of money right now in the US especially since this is all tax free money, mainly for the fact that you wouldnt even consider going to another country if you made in the range of 80,000 plus a year...Yes you will get bored when you are over there since there wont be anyone you will really know, but there are many things to do like all of the new culture. The villas are really nice that you would be staying in and are fully funished...the price for flights going from the US to qatar is almost 2000 if you had to pay for it. Although ITT pays for your flights and they pay for you to get your visa if you dont already have one. The work, if it is indoors or outdoors depends...they have many different groups of mechanics over there for the humvee's, they have people that repaint them....replace tires and brakes...basically a different group of people for different parts of the humvee, do you know what section you will be working on? You will not be just working on one by yourself. If you have anymore questions just ask
