Jewelry to Doha?

I would like to mail order some gold and diamond jewelry, worth around $2000, to be delivered from US to Doha. Can anyone tell me if I might have problems with US or local customs? What is the easiest way to get the jewelry here? (I don’t have friends traveling US-Doha for the next few months)

I don't know about diamonds. The reason for the ban on pearls was that Qatar was a large producer of them and many are still produced. That was the reason for the ban. Al-Fardan made much of his money in the pearl fishing industry.

How about diamonds? Would they be confiscated? Do I have to pay import duty or tax on gold and diamond jewelry?

I take it that you are aware gold is far cheaper in Qatar than it is in the US.

Make sure that there are no pearls (natural or cultured) as customs may confiscate them.

I would pay more and use either fedex or dhl. This way you can track its whereabouts during shipment. For the customs description, I would put something like "birthday gift" or "anniversary gift".

Or, if you know anyone that works on the military bases, you could have your friend in the US send it to them.

I wouldn't trust it going through regular US mail to a commercial Qatar address. Maybe letter mail but never something of that value.
