Hi All,

I'm relatively new in Doha and am looking for a sparring partner to practice JIU JITSU. I haven't heard of any club that does this here but I know that it has finally arrived in UAE. So any information would be helpful. Its real fun too!

For street fighting I think training with Gi is essential. After all, how likely are you going to confront someone with a bathing short on the street :p And besides, without Gi you miss out on all the chokes and grabs that require your opponent to be "normally" dressed.

*AHEM*... I believe there are TWO of us that regularly broaden our horizons beyond just BJJ by studying instructional stuff from Sambo, Sub-wrestling, etc.

As for Gi Vs No Gi, thats getting to be an irritating old debate. *LoL* You know I prefer No Gi, but I think its good to train both. Traditionalists need to get with the times, but No Gi guys also need to respect their roots. Just my .02...

google it. Jiu Jitsu is a Japanese martial art.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is based off of more grappling and Japanese Jiu Jitsu.

It is also considered to be the ultimate fighting art.

exactly, that's the purpose of BJJ.

The Gi is a formality based on traditional JJ.

BJJ is supposed to be a realistic art that can be fought anywhere. As Royce once said.

"By the time you bow down and get into your 'stance', you're kicked in the face".

Royce Gracie fought with Gi and always won. Actually the first time he lost recently was without Gi. You can use it to ur advantage in many ways. Its more realist ic too, but only if BOTH fighters wear it!

Lets keep this thread alive and update that info on the gym please. I don't have the address yet.

I'm actually a BJJ instructor. Well for 4 years until 2 years ago. (I lost alot of muscle weight since then that it's depressing lol) I've shrunk since then, but was never huge, I'm more technical.

One of my students was in the UFC (Pacman)

I'm assuming that you guys do BJJ not JJ?

Either way, if I get enough support, I'm planning on opening up a BJJ Society.

there was only one guy that insisted on wearing a gi and he always lost :P

My best student was a Dutch girl who mixed BJJ with Aikido. She was soft but packed a punch. My proudest moment was when a new Nigerian guy called her weak and she slammed him in a sparring session.

Where are you planning on opening a school?

Do you need a sponsor?

It's taken months to gather enough information on the requirements for the ministry, and the list isn't easy.

If I did open it, it would have to be a branch underneath my school in England.

Sure just let me know.
