i was just wondering, while buying a used car how important is the nationality of the person selling the car? would it really affect ur decision? would u even consider it? if so why?
well the main reason i started this topic was a very funny incident while we were looking for a second car. the seller ,an indian, insisted on the quality of his vehicle especially because the earlier owner was also an indian like himself and not an arab or pakistani who" drive like crazy and ruin the car" those were his words and we were rather taken aback but just laughed,my husband and i are pakistanis. this made me wonder if others think this way too.
I am only interested in buying a Merc (semi 4WD) "not a new model" (My hubby says wishful thinking) but hey if the price is right why not.
I am not planing to use this in the desert but mainly just for shoping and visiting friends.
I have purchased cars where I came from and always from a registered dealers and I had not problem at all. I guess I will be reluctant to buy any car from a street vendor of any nationalities. I have to ask him/her to go to the vehicle inpection dept with me (if you have any here) and ask for a certificate that everything is in order.
ok fair enough and what about the gender? some ppl prefer a lady driven car because it may be handled more carefully where as some consider women to be poor drivers.
ICU, yes we should trust more, but when it comes to buying something that expensive, we better be careful with what we buy, better safe than sorry. The nationality specifically might not matter, but the general background of the seller might and nationality is apart of it.
Like Boer said, just test it and avoid all this guessing.

will tend to use their 4x4's quite harshly. This is a generalisation, I admit, but i will not buy a 2nd hand Land Cruiser. I've seen them in the desert - engines must be over the red line almost all the time!
Western expats would probably (again generalised) use cars more cautiously.
As far as Asians go, I have no real prejudices. I would meet the person and form a character judgement.
There is no easy answer to this one. The best thing is to have electronic tests done on the engine. There is a place in Salwa Road that does it for about QR 100.
That avoids all the nationality issues.

When I bought my second hand car I did not consider the nationality of the seller but only the condition of the vehicle. I don't think the nationality of the seller should matter.
Nationality does not matter, you should take extra precautions while buying the used vehicles from the market. By the way what brand you are looking for so that i can give you some idea/ references..
I think some people think they are getting a better product say if they buy a car from a lady, expat verses a Qatari teenager. But I don't know if it really matters.
I would definitely consider the nationality. But more importantly I would take into account the occupation and age of the seller. That would give me some idea of the type of person and how he would treat his car.

I don't mind what nationality as long as they will give me a good deal. We have to learn to trust more.
