Just Want To Share

I just want to share something to you guys.

My family and friends went to a public beach up north and we brought along our new dog. We spent the night camping on that beach. Aside from us there are also a few groups doing the same thing. The next day we walked the dog along the beach and had it go swimming. While my friend was taking the dog for another walk, my husband saw a kid of about 10 or 11 from the next camp threw a stone at our dog but the dog wasn't hit. After that he tried again with a bigger rock about the size of 2 fists. The boy's father was just there looking and did not even reprimanded his son about his behaviour. Thank God the rock did not hit my friend or our pet.

It is sad to think that there are people who would hurt someone/something who did not even do anything to harm them. Kids in particular should be brought up by their parents to respect life as it is one of the basic teachings on any culture, nationality or religion. It is a bit disconcerting that some kinds nowadays are not fond of cute animals anymore and are prone to become violent on something/someone smaller than them.

Thanks for reading :-)

Hi nomerci. thank you very much for being sympathetic. i wasn't very particular on the nationality of the person who did this to us. because it doesn't matter where they came from what is abhorrent to a lot of people here is the act and the intention. i have met very decent qataris and even other nationalities so we cannot really judge a whole group for the acts of just one.

chevvy, sorry that happened to you. Have heard of quite a few such things...and many worse ones. And it is not necessarily only Qataris who commmit them.

Anyhow, I suggest you go to the beach in the morning and leave before 3 in the afternoon. That way you won't encounter many unpleasant people.

is a 2 way street and it has to start with each of us. Such a shame that some don't feel empowered enough to expect even their basic human rights here. I guess I am fortunate because if I felt that I could easily leave. :(

In Islam a dog is unclean yes but still a creation of Allah. dogs being unclean doesn't mean they are to be abused..Audubillah!In fact there is a hadith of a prostitute who's sins Allah forgave simply for her act of giving water to a thirsty dog! This is nothing to do with religion..I'm sure the same kids would abuse any animal given the chance..just pure sick minded beings who may very well be a chip off the old block!

@smoked.salmon - that would be returning the favor LOL

@fatimah - thanks! that's quite right whatever the kid sees from their elders they usually immitate it. there is also a possiblity that this kid gets beaten up by his father at home if he is mischievous. this same retarded kid burned styrofoams on the bonfire that they made the previous night and that was when his dad shouted at him.

later that morning there was another group of kids and teens driving ATV's without parental supervision another retard of i think 9 years old drove the ATV right beside us and he drifter the vehicle like a racing car where dust and stone flew at us. we shouted some filipino obsenities to him coz that is what we can only do :-P

why people don't say something to qataris when they are in the wrong? if we expats do that then it's tantamount to deportation! :)

I'm not sure what the cultural background to all this is or what is was for the kid throwing the stone or even the context ... but generally dogs are seen as unclean in Islam. Why they allow pets to come here in teh first place is unknown or why there are not more clearer guidelines as to what owners can do is up to the locals.

The point is that you're perspective is different to the others.

People are afraid to confront Qataris when they see them doing something illegal or just plain wrong. Last night I was out with a Qatari colleague looking at some shops for a few things for a project we have and he experienced a few things that expats are always complaining about here on qatarliving. At one point 2 Qataris were in their landcruisers parked side my side, blocking the road in the al saad area and were just having a friendly chat. It was within 20 meters of a policeman and the cars were backed up for more than a block behind these two twats. I was driving and my colleague got out of the car, went up and told the guys to take their portable majlis elsewhere. After that he went to the policeman and ripped him a new one for not making the 2 local guys move.

A bit later, we were in carrefour at city center when 2 women in nikab just pushed their trolley right into him to puch him out of the way while they tried to get to the check-out. He called them out on it and they looked shocked, moving and taking a place in another line. I told him that is what we expats deal with frequently, especially with the ninja ladies who think they own the country and are irritated at having to breathe the same air as us. He asked me why don't people say something to Qataris when they are in the wrong because they'll never change if we don't.

Subhanallah a kid hurts animals and daddy dear watches it all...What on earth?? Chevy you should have said something!then again I don't fault you completely for being afraid cos if people can treat animals like this who knows what they'll do to others! that was criminal...OMGod! Whatever next you wonder. Guess the next time the kid chooses to beat up his class mate or rough up someone daddy might support his lil baby then too? Sick mentality seems to be inherited!

@ex.ex.expat

We did not want any trouble as they have more men in their group than what we have with ours. We want the father to acknowledge and correct his son's behavior. He might see it as meddling on how he raises his kid. I don't want to sound nasty or judgmental but they do not look to be well educated because if they are they would be a lot more civilized.

The "hunting instinct" of the people here is still very strong.
