hello kabayans!

me and my friends are going to work in doha and will be moving this month. we're trying to prepare what we need but encountered some questions that we hope you guys could help us on.

1. buying personal items (like shampoo and stuffs) here in the Phil or in Qatar.
2. if it's better to buy in qatar, where can we go
3. where to get good mobile provider and how much (pocket money issue)

thanks a lot for your help and responses

hi kabayan,

welcome here in doha..as what other said from the other comments here in the thread, bring some clothes instead of bringing some toiletries from phil..u can buy the most expensive brands here that you have second thoughts in buying back home..

as to clothes here..as a fashionista like me..i find some clothes here either too big for me or too "out of fashion"..so i advice you to load some clothes..(the most fashionable ones you could ever find in the phil)..

bring some meds too(e.g. biogesic), coz i have this experience that i have caught an allergic reaction from the medicine that i asked in the plane..

yes, use up your baggage allowance with clothes and shoes instead of toiletries. price differences are not too significant. but i did stock up on the limited edition japanese pantene conditioners philippine groceries were selling the last time i went home.

no decent clothes worth buying here, aside from them being expensive. if you use a particular perfume/cologne there's a possibility that it might not be available here (i.e. bath & body works) but i personally find the ones available better & more affordable here.

some over the counter medicines back home cannot be easily bought in pharmacies here (you'll need to go to the doctor & stuff) so you might want to bring a few just in case. you can buy panadol anywhere here but i personally prefer biogesic so i make it a point to bring some every time i come back from my vacation.

have the best haircut you can get before flying out too :) you won't be having one like it while you're here.

welcome to qatar.

I suggest you bring a LOT of clothes!

Walang masyadong pagpipilian ng damit dito and if ever meron man, MAHAL!

Punuin mo an bagahe mo ng mga damit!

Mga shampoo, lotion at kung anik anik eh dito mo n lang bilhin.

merong kabayan Supermarket dito or sa Carrefour n lang kc kumpleto n cla dun.

I suggest you bring at least $ 900 if you have a ready accommodation waiting for you here.

another thing, if you're a first timer, winter can be a bit cold for your own comfort. Bring proper clothing as they are expensive over here. But it's a nice time to come here, though you'll surely miss like hell the festive atmosphere at home. Welcome and good luck! :)

you can buy everything in here pwera baboy. so magdala ka na lang ng isang spam, isang liver spread at isang chicharon, then tawagan mo ako at share tayo.hehehe. don't worry much, hindi mahirap mabuhay dito, punta ka lang ng souq at andun lahat ng bumbay nagbebenta ng pilipino products..goodluck and welcome (soon) to doha.

pls be noted that there's a limited quantity for bringing liquid items and there's nothing to worry coz there's a pinoy supermarket that sell filipino products.

it's still wise to bring some toiletries with you (in small amounts)... sure you can get those easily here in Doha as grocery shops/supermarkets are everywhere... but you'll never know, for some reasons you might not be able to go... so better keep them handy ^_^

There are plenty of good supermarkets here, with an excellent selection of toiletries. Bring enough to tide you over for a couple of days, but everything you need is here, and reasonably priced.

As for where to go, there is plenty of choice, and I can assure you, you will have no trouble finding a shopping mall here.

There are two mobile providers here Qtel and Vodafone. Both are good value and pre-paid sims are available simply by showing your passport.
