left or right handside driving

Hi All

Just to satisfy my curiosity and solve a discussion with my husband, do you drive on the left or right of the road in Qatar?

Also, what areas are good to live in - our expectation is a 1 or 2 bed f/f flat, house or small villa, what are the standards and facilities like in the compounds? Husband has been looking on Google Earth and although out of date, likes the look of certain areas esp on the sea front to the north of the town.

Many thanks for your time, its appreciated.

In Qatar. It is a left hand driving(i.e. your left hand is for the steering and your right is for the gear shifting), and you will be driving on the right side of the road. Same as America and Europe (except UK).

It's the right hand side...but here in Qatar, it's how you'll stay safe of the road while driving is IMPORTANT. It's always DEFENSIVE DRIVING mode for us here.

For accommodation, you can check the classifieds here, or the gulftimes.com and the britishexpat.com

Hope this helps, even just a bit....

Must agree with the previous post, you can drive on any side you want and in the middle of two lanes is preferred! lol

Housing...I might recommend that you check out some of the classifieds and then maybe posts some questions on what sounds interesting to you. There are many options for places to live, unfortunately the main factor right now probably isn't location, it is cost. Good Luck!

You drive on the right hand side here, unlike UK. Although this (and other traffic rules) are optional if you're in a thobe driving a Land Cruiser.

Don't judge Qatar by pics from the outside (like GoogleEarth). Most would agree, it's all glam and shine on the outside but hollow inside.
