Living Without the Internet?

CoolMany of us cannot escape logging onto the Internet on a daily basis to check out the news, interact with friends over online social networking sites, or even just for checking their e-mail. But what if you find yourself completely unable to access the Internet? Can you imagine what your world would be like?

  • This is exactly what people in parts of the Middle East and Asia were faced  as a major of Internet cable beneath the Mediterranean had been cut near the Egyptian coast early Wednesday, January 30, 2008. Users in Egypt, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen, and India have been experiencing poor Internet access with some regions barely being able to to have any access at all.

How would you imagine your life would be without the information superhighway? Would your life go business as usual or have you become too dependent on the Internet for too many things? Do you expect things to get better or worse in the future?

A jobless man applied for the position of "office boy" at Microsoft.

The HR manager interviewed him then watched him cleaning the floor as a test. "You are employed." He said." Give me your e-mail address and I'll send you the application to fill in, as well as date when you may start."

The man replied "But I don't have a computer, neither an email.

" I'm sorry", said the HR manager, "If you don't have an email, that means you do not exist. And who doesn't exist, cannot have the job."

The man left with no hope at all. He didn't know what to do, with only $10 in his pocket. He then decided to go to the supermarket and buy a 10 Kg tomato crate. He then sold the tomatoes in a door to door round. In less than two hours, he succeeded to double his capital. He repeated the Operation three times, and returned home with $60.

The man realized that he can survive by this Way, and started to go everyday earlier, and return late Thus, his money doubled or tripled every day. Shortly, he bought a cart, then a truck, then he had his own fleet of delivery vehicles. 5 years later , the man is one of the biggest food retailers in the US.

He started to plan his family's future, and decided to have a life insurance. He called an insurance broker, and chose a protection plan. When the conversation was concluded, the broker asked him his email.

The man replied, "I don't have an email". The broker answered curiously, "You don't have an email, and yet have succeeded to build an empire. Can you imagine what you could have been if you had an email?!!

" The man thought for a while and replied, "Yes, I'd be an office boy at Microsoft!"

Moral of the story: M1 -  Internet is not the solution to your life.

M2 -  If you don't have internet, and work hard, you can be a millionaire.

M3 -  If you received this message by email, you are closer to being an  office boy - than a millionaire.........

With those in line with my age, here we are, we catched up with the modern world. We live a life full of boring in my younger times. I was dying to receive a mail by post everyday, the only source of communication we had . Telephone call is limited, it was so expensive. The first time i had a mobile was year 1999. Big Ericson .

dweller...honestly....

I use the PC it when it is there for my use.

When I go to Kerela to my relatives house who do not have Internet access and I do not miss it. I can stay weeks even month without the need of a PC.

But Cable TV/Movies/Songs are something I cannot do without.

Sometimes I think that some folks become 'addicted' to the 'net.' As Mila pointed out so rightly, once upon a time, we didn't have it, and we still managed to keep in touch :D. Some people get to the point that they live their life 'virtually' only, and forget that there is a 'real world' out there. I love having internet, and most days I'm online, but I don't live on my computer :D

Whats the big deal...

I have been without Internet and never itched for it. Technology is there for your use. You should not be used by the Technology.

But being without Cable TV.....thats something I cannot stand......lol

Same as dweller - have lived abroad without the net loads of times and I read much more and write 'proper' letters and diaries when I don't have the temptation to waste time on line ;o)

One also tends to make ones own entertainment more - e.g. gatherings where people bring their musical instruments along,  and just generally become far more creative!

I love having internet access, don't get me wrong, but it certainly tends to make some people less sociable!

lived in the Gulf without it before .......I could manage.

Post was taking two weeks either way so a reply took a month. Mobile phones didn't exit so no texts.

Life would be more inconvenient but not impossible
