Lost in France

I fly to France tomorrow (insh'Allah) for my annual vacation and have a nasty feeling that I have forgotten things that I need to do before I leave. I have remembered to have a goodbye drink with Bridge since I can't go to her leaving do and I have paid the bills. That should be it right?

Okay here's the question. What should I be bringing back from France?

Any ideas?

As this is Qatar there was the usual mess ups. I was in Dubai and was not able to get another exit permit until this morning so I am now leaving at 12.30 today.

But hey, a few extra hours in Qatar is always a joy.

Pastis is available in Doha, so if you want to place an order let him get a cute Italian guy from Paris :D

Richard avoid goind to Pigalle otherwiseyou will pick a cute girl wih the voice of a man. Rather go to St. Denis, there is a nice Moroccan shawarma restaurant there and it is Halal. Am not talking about the girls in the aisle :D also if you get some Saudi watermelon with you. it is very wet and sweat there but remember to clain your VAT at the airport.

Also if you can get with you some Barbican non-alcoholic beer that will be lovely.

Thank you in advance

Just try to order this food:

duck terrine forestiere

Serve with onion jam and thick toasted slices of bread ,you may also place a nice piece of duck foie gras in the center of the terrine without having to alter the recipe. You may serve this terrine with two original wines: an old Byrrh wine or a Jurançon "vendanges tardives".

Restaurants Nord-Pas-de-Calais.

you gonna love it...

I will do my best to bring you all something back. If you are really lucky I might even learn some culture and astound you all with my knowledge of Europe when I come back. Not very likely though.

I know Richard but see, we kind of get emotionally attached to things and we don’t want to get rid of them. At most we donate them to Bangladesh, as this tower DaRuDe is talking about … although I’m not sure which one this is and it’s definitely not the London’s one!

Take for example the funny round shaped extremely old building, I think they call it the colosseum (BTW you’ll see it there in France). That thing is indecently old, half broken and the other half is falling apart, still the French don’t have the guts to pull it down! About that?

London, Germany also has a leaning tower? See that's the problem with all you Europeans. All the stuff in your country of Europe is like so old it either falls down or starts leaning.

You guys have too much old stuff in your country. Why don't you just knock it down and build some cool new stuff. We do that in America. That's why America is better its newer.

I read somewhere that Switzerland is like 800 years old. That's too old man. These Swiss guys should be trying to extend their country or make it newer.

America is like 231 years old. That's pretty old I know, but we keep extendending our borders and we are much bigger than we were 231 years ago. That's why America is better.

Its like, grow or die dude. Or just get so old and small like Switzerland.

Geography never was my strong point. I think Vasquez may have been trying to confuse me. So the leaning tower of Venice is in Italy right?

tartes aux lards is pretty good too, but not travel friendly.

aside from some blurred memories, i can't think of anything to bring back.

and of course I know that France is renowned for its bananas so I will be sure to take your advice. Unfortunately, as you say they don't travel well so I can't bring them back.

If I want cheese I go to Holland if I want wine I go to California. There must be something worth bringing back from France?

i had the best banana of my entire life.

i was travelling with some aussie friends, and one of them bought the banana in question. after one bite he told me i had to try it. it was early in the morning and i wasn't interested, but such was the magnificence of this piece of fruit that my friend would not take no for an answer.

well, lucky for me he pushed on, because that banana was by far the best banana i have ever had in my entire life.

they don't travel well, so i will recommend that you eat one there.

happy travels.

Just check out if my name (Ray) is still inscribed on the woodwork at the top level of the Eiffel Tower, direction facing the Sienne river. I remember my tour guide telling me that re-painting/renovating Eiffel tower is a continuous process which takes 7 years top to bottom.

Considering I had inscribed it in 2001, it should still be there! :P

Have fun bro and a great vacation too!

how about some can-can petticoats to wear under the abayas I think all us girls will soon be buying.

~~thinks~~ May have to tailor the abayas so's they swing up over ones head at the back and can cope with doing the splits, but such fun to dance in. ooh la la! ;o)

OK I'm off now too - flying up to Edinburgh in a couple of hours time.

Have a great time in gay Paris' !
