A QATARI man was sentenced to death yesterday for the brutal murder of his aunt following a fight about money.
A Doha court heard that the man, in his 20s, had tried to suffocate his relative before bludgeoning her with a stone and driving a car over her battered body.
The man was finally caught after a friend of the murderer told his brother – and his brother called the police.
The barbaric killing took place on September 17, 2007.
The court was told that after arming himself with a knife, the Qatari drove his aunt to the desert to demand money she owed him. When she refused, the man leapt into the back of the car and tried to choke her to death using his knee pressed against her windpipe.
He then pushed the semi-conscious woman out of the car and left her to die.
That night he told a friend what he had done and asked him to help get rid of the body. However, when they returned to the scene the woman was still clinging to life.
The fiend then took a stone – even as the woman begged for mercy – and smashed her over the head. He then callously pulled her bloodied body towards the car and reversed over her several times.
The brother of the man who witnessed the murder told the court: “I was told by my brother that the accused drove over the victim many times. When my brother saw that, he escaped from the place.”
With his aunt’s body still to dispose of, the murderer then contacted his own brother who agreed to help him.
After putting the corpse in the trunk of the car, the brothers bought flammable liquid but their efforts failed and in the end the murderer contacted three Egyptians. The men agreed to dismantle the car for QR20,000 but refused to take the body – even though they were offered QR200,000.
Yesterday, the court ordered the murderer be killed by firing squad or hanging.
His brother was sentenced to three years for trying to cover up the crime and the three Egyptians were each given a year for not informing the authorities that a murder had taken place.

Death sentence is the least punishment one can get for such a brutal act! Money and power are making this world go crazy.
