They were separated at birth, adopted by two different families, they later met and fell in love

London: Twins who married each other without knowing they were brother and sister have had their marriage annulled after a High Court hearing, it has been reported.

The pair was separated at birth, adopted by two different families and neither was told they had a twin, and when they met they unwittingly fell in love with each other.

But a High Court judge annulled the wedding in a private hearing recently. The identities of those involved have been kept secret.

Professor Lord Alton, who uncovered the case, said it highlighted the need for the rights of children to know the identity of their parents.

“The right for children to know the identity of their biological parents is a human right,” he said.

“There will be more cases like this if children are not given access to the truth. The needs of the child must always be paramount.”

I've read somewhere that adults who were adopted and are about to meet their biological siblings are warned that they may feel strong sexual attraction. We have a resistance, a very strong incest taboo where we are aware that someone is a biological relative. But when we are unaware of that relationship, we are naturally drawn to people who are quite similar to ourselves. Both knew they were adopted so that was something else they had in common.

The converse of this is that when children are brought up together they do not find each other sexually attractive - this is how the detrimental effects of inbreeding are normally avoided without the need for legal intervention. The same thing happens throughout species. It was a disappointment for people on Israeli kibbutzim to discover that their biologically unrelated children did not want to marry each other as they had been brought up together as pseudo siblings.

Even societies that have first cousin marriage normally have systems that mean the cousins will not have been raised within the same locality.

I don't go to mythical places with strange men.

absolutely astromically huge...

As Xena said..it happens in marriages also that parents are forced to give up children due to circumstances beyond their control or when the child would have a better life than they could provide for them...Let's not make a political/moral statement out of this..gee...

There's nothing in the thread that points out whether their biological parents were married or not. So don't assume.

But out of all the people in the world, they fall in love with eachother!! What are the odds of that happening! What's even more disturbing is that they slept with eachother! EKKHHH!

It happens in marriages too.... probably less than out of them, but families have been known to give children up for adoption if they don't want them, or cannot afford them....

Don't judge people too harshly, until you have been in the same situation though....

“The right for children to know the identity of their biological parents is a human right,” he said.

That's why marriage is the only apprpriate framework within which people could have "legitimate" children, otherwise things like this would always happen. Another reason to support Marriage in a world where nothing has remained sacred. None think about the consequences of getting children outside marriage, and those who live together without officialising their union are notassuming their reponsibilities as future parents.

Seems like an Indian film story. Only difference, not the happy ending.
