A complete mental and physical fitness test could become mandatory for obtaining a driving licence if a proposal made by the Hamad Medical Corporation to this effect is approved.

What say you?

i think stricter rules should be applied for public utility drivers. in more than one instance ive been with a cabbie talking in his mobile for the entire journey while driving like a madman. complained with karwa countless of times but no change whatsoever.not to mention frequent overcharging via setting the meter to "0" which almost doubles the fare even if its within doha. its a yes for mental and physical test for me!

The majority of drivers in Qatar and Arab world are already mental. Not sure exactly what a mental test will prove, other than perhaps confirm that they are mental.

The test would be totally different. They would ask: do you hit your wife? Do you hit your children? Do you throw stones when you see a dog or a cat? Do you drink? Do you smoke? Do you eat chocolate when you are nervous? Do you cry in the cinema? Is your neighbor your friend? Such questions can reveal the mental state of a person. Or: what would you do if you see an alien crossing Al Waab Street? a) accelerate, b) slow down and take a photo with your mobile, c) stop the car and kneel down to pray.

if u can answer 'yes' to the most important question in Qatar then u can get thru any thing at all (apparently not)... and the question is:

DO U HAVE WASTA?

By qatarisun• 27 Mar 2012 15:53

jjj75, the worst thing is

Answer any of these yes (or even ALL of them), you will pass anyway!

We could always make them take a lie detector test with these questions - fail the test, no driving licence!

It is a funny idea indeed! :)

JJ, let me add another Quick Question!

1) Do you Use BlackBerry While Driving?

By jjj75• 27 Mar 2012 14:25
jjj75

BE - questions could be:

1) Do you own a landcruiser?

2) Do you drive at 10kmph in the middle lane?

3) Do you indicate left when you mean to turn right and vice versa?

4) Are you quick to temper - e.g. if a car in front of you fails to set off within 0.5 seconds of the lights going green you honk your horn?

5) Your horn is more important feature on your car than the brakes?

6) You come off the roundabout from the innermost lane?

Answer any of these yes and you fail mental driving test.

HMC is looking at expenses on rehabilitations of RTA victims. The answer is simple. If in hte police report show that you have caused the accident, no rehabilitaion!

the hired drivers? I think you are sounding discriminatory if not racist!

By omarinmn• 27 Mar 2012 09:19

Not so bad of an idea, but most importantly more education for drivers not just attending some boring few hours training, matched with adequate fine system, increase or link to insurance prices, credit rating etc and that should do the job -for the most part-.

let us support this proposal to get rid of idiotic and crazy drivers...

i just want them to put more emphasis on the mental part... as for the physical, maybe for the public transport sector.. you dont need to be superman to drive...

This will also elevate the standard of hiring personal home drivers and eliminate those that are ... "no english" & "mafi arabic"...

thumbs up for hamad hospital!!!

Mental and physical fitness has nothing to do with change in behaviour behind the wheel. A mentally and physically fit person can easily take over the manners of Mr. Hyde at any time.

By anonymous• 27 Mar 2012 08:54
anonymous

they should have implemented this a long time ago.. well its not to late..

By Chairboy• 27 Mar 2012 08:31
Chairboy

Some people take on a different persona when they get behind the wheel of a car - the most mild mannered of Dr Jeckyl's all of a sudden become very angry Mr Hyde's. I've often thought that driving aggressively and in a threatening manner whilst in the closed confines of a vehicle makes up in some bizarre psychological manner for an insecure personality - like its the only way some people can make an impression upon society.

and traffic would be so light on most roads. This should happen!

Great, if it happens. 90 % would lose their license!!
