Metrash send of driving advice texts

Since English speakers wont receive these texts I thought I'd share it.

In a new initiative to give advice to drivers, Metrash has been sending texts to drivers advising them on legislation and on correct driving techniques.

For example, one message translates as

"Blocking 'crossed lines' on cross roads, especially during busy periods is not permitted since it blocks traffic. Do not stop on the lines, even if the right of way is yours."

Good stuff I say.

(Although I'm sure people will STILL be negative about a positive initiative here on QL)

Update: English texts are sent out too  now.

I agree 100% on that one and don't get me wrong on young drivers we have our fair share of idiots on our roads back home , but  not as many as i see here

for one they would be caught very quickly by our Highway patrol cars and they dont miss a beat they will get you very quick , if they were in Qatar for just on day with their Radars ,pursuit cars etc handing out fines they would make more than  1million dollars in fines in just one day here and not to mention how many licences that would be cut up right in front of you cause thats what they do there if you are caught doing 30 kph over the speed limit , its instant cancellation not no excuses and possibly jail if your child is also floating around your car with no seat belt like you still see here on many occasions and also speeding around school zones, i actually had to remind the school bus driver where my children go to slow down , he came flying past the school never mind the children coming out of the cars crossing over , i can only hope its gets better with time , Wecolme to the best Defence Driving Course in the World

youll get plenty off practise!

but just as it is back in the States..they younger they are the less responsible they are. You can get a hardship license when you are 15, to go to work but the ones I knew who did, almost always ended up in a wreck. Same goes here..only I wonder if they learn to drive in the dunes or desert, perhaps that's why they are so reckless on the roads. Not that its bad to learn there, I mean, I learned on country roads that were dirt, but Daddy made me adhere to the road laws even on those.

I just wish they'd make those folks who drive reckless, take care of some of the other people who are now parapalegic due to another person's driving. I've seen programs that do that for drunk drivers and it definitely works...makes them see first hand how a moment of stupidity can have a lifelong effect on someone else.

But it will take another generation but at least they are trying, ill give them points for that , i see so many young kids in Landcruisers speeding who are not a day over 15 , i had one missing a pot hole and lot control and nearly had a head- on with me ,just sheer stupidty to let somebody so young in the hands of a powerful vehicle with no driving experience , who is reponsible for this parents? schooling? alot of these people should take a visit to the traffic awareness week expo , go an see some of Qatar's finest accident wrecks ......

for those that wish to know, its a good way to spread the word on how to drive correctly...who knows..perhaps it will sink in on at least one person and they will drive a bit safer.....at least they are TRYING to help the situation.

JM - I know I am guilty. But I am fully insured. The Max. I have to pay is QR 100 + stamps for a police report. I hit him and Reversed back He couldn't prove any thing as I have no damage. His damages are old +slightly new from this. Then he said my (Charan) no. plate is damaged. Then my wife said that is not your problem. I did it myself in our parking lot. No police case as the front passenger recognized me :)

Well, I think it's a good start.  It'll take time for people to change, but we have to start somewhere!

You know if someone tries to squeeze in front of me, I don't allow it. But if someone signals, I let them.

Which brings another text a friend received.

"Make sure that you always signal when exiting and making turns."

Congratulations Curvec for being the first to go out on a tangent and turn a good thing into a negative subject. Bravo.

If I was in your position, I wouldn't move and just ignore the guy behind me.

@PM, I think they are now.

I find that following the rules is quite possible if you try your best. Sometimes I'm on the round about and someone tries to veer into the wrong lane, I wont move and I'll honk to scare them. Hopefully they'll pay attention next time :P

would be great to get those in English also...that way everyone is aware of what would be "ideal" to do in situations.

Thanks whoami....

Had to laugh..this post reminded me of the other day..hubby and I were at the ramada intersection...traffic kinda backed up..this Qatari gets out of his car and walks to the car in front of him (ok..light was still red) and words insued...just about everyone around us got out of their car to come watch what was going on..then some shoving started...suddenly, everyone gets BACK into their cars..lights turn green, some honking, and everything was alright and all drive off! Hubs and i just looked at each other and laughed. Its never dull around here, that's for sure!

Definitely a good initiative. I'd be interested to see how someone could find a negative in this ;-)

Even if i wanted to follow the rules as dictated. Its not possible in Qatar! People are just too impatient and unpolite.

I got hooted several times and flashed with high beam by some dude who looked important in a SUV while at the traffic lights once. He even started to get out of the SUV.

Lucky the traffic in front of me after the yellow box started moving so i started to move.

So what do we do? Follow the law or get bullied?
