miss my saturday nights out
By Jason Paul •
Just been talking to few friends back in the UK and they all getting ready for a loud night out round the town, first time tonight I actually miss it, as i'm now ironing shirts for the week ahead !just seems strange that on a saturday night the weekend is over,
one thing i wont miss is the rotten sunday morning hangover, ill be to busy sifting through a load of emails
guess this is the relms of being a grown up
hope you all had a pleasant weekend
Jason, we do pretty much the same over here, except we do it on a Thursday or Friday.
Hey Jason,
soon you will find out how much 'double standards' you can find here in Qatar AND on Qatar Living ;) and in the end the life and money is yours, so whether you are indeed a pisshead or not, don't feel the need of justify yourself mate. There is a lot worse around ;) (like this dreadful heat!!!)
I dont all the time (although this thread is starting to imply i do ) the point of it was that on the saturday night i would meet friends go to the pub/club or house and enjoy socialising and a drink or to, in the week i have my work head on and the weekend is my relaxing time here a saturday night is like a sunday night in the uk, where you know that work feeling starts to take over, its a culture difference, thats all and im adjusting accordingly
Well Jason, I am not tee total, but I also prefer not to be drunk.
Alumnar, i work smart and do the shirts once a week that leave me 6 nights to get drunk and also on said night can multitask thanks to my amercian baseball cap with holder and long straw lol Vegas not really my friendNomerci for a women who dosnt, you sure have a good command of our terminolgy and famous quote 'if you cant beat them join them'!! lol only joking the world needs an equal amount of drunks and tee totals but not saying that im a drunk, but i was disappointed when i once went to an aa meeting only to find there wasnt a drop in sight (false advertising at its best)
Vegas, no idea!
OK...Well Happy Piss Uping...
Is it cause you have to pee alot when you drink alot of beer???
Vegas, it's what the Brits call getting seriously drunk.
a "Piss up"???
Jason, good on you mate - very true about the shirts. Looks like you don't get drunk enough every night to 'burn your shirts' when you iron them ;) Shame on you - there was me thinking you were a pisshead! Teehee! ;)
Have a good day :)
Only roughly 23 days to go when you can iron that shirt and hit the 'town'. :0(
Azamat thanks for the heads up but really its not that hard to maintain a few shirts
Ironing shirts? seriously? Dry cleaners here charge only 3-5 riyals per shirt.
Jason, no, not an invite. I am not into "piss ups", not my style. But you will find many people here in Qatar who like to do those.....the rugby club might be one of the many options you have.
We always miss what we no longer have. When you finally leave Doha there will be things about Qatar you miss as well.
tony yhm
Hi mate,I've just been offered a role in Doha but dont know anything about it, I have travelled a bit but just not there. Could you give me a bit of info for if acomodation is expensive, what the working week is and if it is pretty open or supressed out there? It sounds like there's not the big saturday night beer-fests - are there any pubs? :-) Thanks,Tony
You don't know what you missed .. Northern Soul Mecca and Wigan pier..
Those were the days :O)
they recenty knocked that building down on central drive northern soul mecca (im a bit young for it but my m8 used to go all the time and told me loads of stories)but you can still always gurantee a fight with a scotsman on holiday thou
Blackpool is the place to be.. Northern Soul nights followed by a stagger to the pub and ending with a fight with a Scotsman on holiday .. Good tomes :0)
nomerci is that an invite lol look forward to it it is just mindset that is the strange thing for me to adjust to
Well Jason, here it would be Friday nights out. After Ramadan, of course.
snow in doha, i thought it was all sun sun sun night AlumnarFA gotta share the missingness and once upona yesteryear bar hopping was all i did, Tea total now like lol
Amen FA! Losing my shoes too lol...
Xmas will be in Doha for us... I hope it snows!!! ;-P
Good night guys :)))
Bar Hopping, I miss it alot... All Drunk and Next day hangover..... Oh Gheezzzz, after this thread i actually miss it as well.... :(
Thats exactly what I intend to do and so far met really nice people, I downloaded an app for my ipad the other day you can create your own epic thunderstorm with rain (lite or torrential) my friends back home laugh at me but they are not here and it usually helps me sleep and with the sound of the ac replicate the gales it does remind me of home!! and yes Blackpool is the home of memoryless brilliant nights out and as you say with the vast percentage of people on stag or hens, its always one amazing night, i think i wont be back to the UK till xmas but will prob spend a bit of time in London as that is a great place at xmas then head home for new years eve
Blackpool reminds me of walking down the road with no shoes on in the middle of the night after a henparty! Somehow I got from A to B but next morning there was a huge blank in my memory! Hubby is from Middlesbrough and we won't get back to the UK for a holiday til next year :-(... really miss the UK and the green countryside despite all the rain. Been in Qatar 3 years and 4 years in Abu Dhabi before that so am well used to the way of life and traditions to respect - and so will you if you take it all as it comes and make the best of it :)
Ah the full english there was a cafe near mine used to do the best fry up, serve with a cold pint of stella sorted the maddest of nights out Been here four weeks now and so far so good tbh was unaware the strength of ramadan here and like you say with full respect, it has been good to learn about and gain understanding something I only knew a bit about, still a lot to learn but hey that is part of the reason im here broaden my culture xperiances outside the brightlights of my hometown Blackpool !!
Hey Jason,
I know what you mean. Pub crawls and full English the next morning (aka mid afternoon) to soak up the alcohol ;) Those days are gone :-/
Have you just arrived? We could meet up sometime, we stick to the gatherings in somebodies' house this month due to 'restrictions of Ramadan' - which we fully respect I may add (before the bashing starts!!!). Drop me a pm if you want to get in touch :)
