MONDAY 8th Sept- WEAR SOMETHING YELLOW.

angelwings
By angelwings

With regard to the tragedy in Hastings UK, recently, we are planning to use this Monday to show our sympathy for the family of the Qatari boy who died, and also make a stand against this kind of meaningless violence. Hopefully the UK government (and others around the world) will take note and give this kind of behaviour 'zero tolerance'.

We will go to the Corniche on the Monday, exactly one week after the original stand made in the UK.

Because of the Ramadan timings, and the heat, it seems best to arrange for a silent stand at 4.45pm until 5.00pm. Thus allowing those who need to leave quickly for the Iftar period time to drive back home again. There will be no particular time of silence, except during the 15 minute period mentioned above.

To be recognised, we will BRING SOMETHING YELLOW. It can be a flower, a balloon, an armband, or even an item of clothing, anything that will distinguish the stand you are making.

There is not going to be any formal spot for meeting, other than on the actual Corniche itself, that way we don't have to ask for permits etc. We will not be forming a 'crowd' in any particular place, so a permit will not be required. Only that we will quietly walk or stand on the Corniche area, with our YELLOW distinguishing marker.

IF YOU CANNOT COME ON MONDAY, PLEASE WEAR OR SHOW SOMETHING YELLOW DURING THE DAY, TO SHOW YOUR SOLIDARITY WITH US. THE TIMING ISN'T IMPORTANT, BUT THE COLOUR WILL SHOW YOU'RE WITH US, AND THE BOY'S FAMILY, THAT DAY.

Thanks,
Angelwings.

A sincere thank to Angel wings for arranging such a meaningful event and to Speed for informing me about this event; my heartfelt appreciations to Qatar Living, I love Qatar and other websites those helped in making the walk a success; it was really a great feeling to stand by the victim’s family and empathizing their pain.

to all of those who were at various points along the Corniche - separate to the Sheraton area, and those who wore the yellow in their places of work and at home. This is a big thank you on behalf of the family, for all playing your part.

Thanks for all those who turned up, and the yellow ribbons, and armbands were great, as well as all the yellow clothing ! I don't know how many heard the 'speech' that the family made, expressing their heartfelt thanks for standing with them during this time. They said it was encouraging, and they were grateful for our show of kindness!! What a humbling thing to be told such a thing - they in their loss, thanking us for such a small gesture.

Thank you again, to everyone.

Angelwings.

Hope all went fine as planned !

I was not able to come due to my medical situation but I sent 'Khannan' and 'Casanova' to represent QLVG along with other QL volunteers.

It was for a good cause, and sure one day in return Allah(God) will reward you all who supported this cause :-)

This is an unfortunate cheap shot at selling newpapers, and yes I will convey my disappointment with their tactics. Its a shame, as Gulf Times is an otherwise good newspaper generally.

Qatari: There will be plenty of folks to take pictures, so no worries about having something for QL's to look at it they didn't make it.

Bad Headlines in Gulf Times...

The unfortunate use of the word 'murdered' in today's Gulf Times is very sad - in that the newspapers would capitilise on such an event to add provocation to the issue. I totally disassociate myself from this headline... and feel it is a tacky way of selling newspapers.

It won't put me off showing my sympathy for the family however, or the need to stand agains this sensless behaviour.

In this case, we stand against violence of this nature. Uncalled for, abused, unmotivated, unbalanced, mindless violence.

There was a song many years ago called 'Tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree'.... which was meant to denote the homecoming of someone safely. That of course wasn't the case for Mohammed... and its also just a way of identifying those who are interested to make such a stand, as well as showing their sympathy.

Its gaining momentum, but we need everyone to pass the word along, with sms and emails, so do your best to let everyone know.

Don't worry about 'being there'... the colour yellow will produce enough to highlight the 'topic'. Tie a yellow ribbon on your car aerial too...... just some more ideas.

Thanks,
