Move to shut down QL!

svelte_saggi
By svelte_saggi

hey people.....i came to know y'day that many people out here are making moves to shut-down QL....and these people are mainly those involved in companies/organisations that get verbally bludgeoned here on Ql.it seems they just cannot stand the freedom of speech that is enjoyed on QL.and many are taking the matter up to higher authorities to ban the website.this is unfair!!!thoroughly unfair!!!

what can we do to prevent this?i am really worried.

hope the mods are doing something about it.and no matter what,guys....we QL-ers are always with you!hands down!

what say,fellas?

yeah tallg, but the existing information wouldn’t be obsolete.. and its gone through the spiders of all web search engines already. So if someone google it, then he’ll be able to get the info.

But, why to worry about it now? All we have to do now is feed the information. Lolz :):)

flammable - if the site can't be accessed in Qatar then it wouldn't be much use to the rest of the world, since the majority of the information on here comes from people living in Qatar. The existing posts would soon become out of date and redundant.

And admins still being able to update the site wouldn't make any difference. The site content is created by the users, not the admins.

Anyway, it's highly unlikely to happen so I wouldn't worry about it!

By Flammable• 19 Oct 2008 14:48
Flammable

hmm.. i belive still the admins would be able to update the site. ( using FTP, if its hosted remotely) or doing it directly if they have their own servers.

else, its not a bad idea to host it somewhere else, just for safetly. lol :)

Even if Qtel banned and blocked the site, it will still be accessible to the rest of the world, unless the website is hosted in Qatar.

So they won’t be able to stop the information flow to the outside world. they can only block people in Qatar accessing the site.

How sad..

As baldrick said, CID can't do jack. All that can happen is Qtel can block the site, like they have with qatarsucks.com

Guys! There are other websites like "qatarsucks.com" that have much more derogatory things about qatar. I dont think QL shud be CID's first problem if they're targetting on shutting down malicious websites:)

anything is possible in qatar, in that i have come to understand, what more on this site shutting down, then again, there's still a possibility that it may not happen, lets just leave these on the right people in authority to decide, since by their action defines the true ways of how things work in here, if they wanna make people shut up they can probably do that, but then again, it is our hands who do the typing and even our mouths are closed there will always be the hands to work it out...

I just wonder what people think all the time in a just passing conversation. Shutting down a site will not prevent people having an opinion, it will have just the opposite effect another site, another name same process.

This is not an all out revolution against QL and one other thing do you think that the CID is not on the site already and reading posts? Of course they are and the CID are a lot more on top of things here in Qatar more than one would think.

If there is a majority opinion complaining against one or two companies, then I think there is really something not right at the top. To be quite the opposite they are getting more attention and advertising this way against any set opinion, even negative press is press and QL circulates around the world as we have seen.

There are many other top on top of the top people using QL and it is an attraction for the ex-pats as it is for locals, to furnish people and exchange vital information about Qatar.

A great deal of the information is very positive for Qatar, and many social groups on QL have done wonders improve the social inbalance for the expats.

that it would resurrect itself in another name/forum...not to worry...QL will be like the phoenix...arising from the ashes, renewed.

i can't tell you much.though i'll let u in on a bit....

my friend's boss tried to call up the mods (heaven alone knows where he got their number from) and got them just once on the line.the frustrated boss screams at them telling them that they should filter and block bad-mouthing against organisations.the mod-guy tells him that he'll do the needful and cuts the call.however, freedom of speech continues on QL and our old man gets a call from his principals in another country who've been monitoring these comments that they ought to do something about running their organisation in a better way or else risk being deprived of the franchisee deal between them.that's it.the boss blows his top and decides on a different tactic.he plans of calling in the CID (with help from his very influential sponsor) to the office and again tries calling up the mods to come and visit his office in the pretext of giving them a permanent advertisement on the site for their co.the mods attend one call, but never turn up at the office (guess intuition worked!)...and then on they never pick the boss' calls.

the gentleman i know told me y'day that his boss is bent on closing this down.though i argued a lot saying that his boss is crazy,i figured there's not much we can do about it.

felt i just HAD to share with you guys... :'( (sob!sob!)

Well if Qtel block QL then it wont go on, simple as that.

However, I don't think the posts where various companies are bad-mouthed would be considered reason to block the site, unless perhaps Qtel or QA made a big fuss.

But if attention is drawn to the site for whatever reasons there are plenty of other things written on here that would probably get it blocked.
