moving to qatar
By kloutklout •
I would like to hear from some people who have moved from the United States about life in Qtar from the perspective of a single mom with a 9 year old son. I may choose an academic job and hope to hear details from those who know.
There's a HUGE difference among the various schools here. But if you are considering a job in Education City you'll be fine.

if you just respect the tradition of the country also hear and learn then you will live happilly here i think, best luck.
Schools are good but not cheap.
ASD (the American School) is excellent
Family and social life will depend largely on your compound and your employer, but Qatar is generally safe (except for the driving) and a single mother from the West should not expect have much difficulty negotiating life in Qatar. Qatar is conservative but generally not closed minded.
Lifestyle, again, will depend largely on the salary and benefits package offered by your employer. This really is essential.
If you can be more specific on who your employer might be--one of the American universities in Education City, Qatar University, etc., people could be more specific about the work environment, benefits, housing, etc.
Good luck.
