MPLS
to IT buffs out there, can you tell me what MPLS is? how it can be applied? and how does it works (in layman's term please)...and is this the same of ADSL? (i think not, but not sure though)...please enligthen my troubled mind bout this...:) thanks..

its ok treys, just that our IT guy only submits this request to us, and accordingly, as i am not aware of this, i can't just request this "just" like that.. i just need to know as Qtel decline my request over some incorrect details...argh!...

I don't know the rules here with Qtel.... your IT guy should be in better position to advise whether you need just a high-speed ADSL line or an MPLS line..

In lay man's terms:
1. MPLS - think of it a big expressway where you can send your data, video and voice traffic. Being a big expressway, more traffic can be sent but it is also expensive for an individual or a small business. So it is used more by big companies to connect their business to the Internet. There are also extra services provided because there are guarantees involved in using this service.
2. ADSL - uses the subscriber line you get when you apply for a phone line. This connects a home or a small office to the Internet while still providing a phone line service. Now think of bandwidth as a width of a road. "A" in the acronym stands for assymmetric because the upload bandwidth is normally less than the download bandwidth so you can download data faster than you can upload the same data. This was designed so because home users usually browse and download data from the Internet more than they upload data which is usually email.
Service Providers price the ADSL depending on the bandwidth you subscribe so higher bandwidth is more expensive. So if you use your Skype or Yahoo voice service a lot and you suffer from voice quality problems maybe you will need a higher bandwidth subscription or close other applications accessing the Internet while making your call.

ok thank you for clearing that MPSL is different of ADSL....how to apply this now with Qtel (MPLS), do i need a form or something? it can be applied with what? just to provide telephone number or how?...sorry this is just work thing that has been consuming my energies for days now..and our IT is not that much of a help for bein a lazy azz...

MPLS
(1) (MultiProtocol Lambda Switching) The earlier name for GMPLS. See GMPLS.
(2) (MultiProtocol Label Switching) A standard from the IETF for including routing information in the packets of an IP network. MPLS is used to ensure that all packets in a particular flow take the same route over a backbone. Deployed by many telcos and service providers, MPLS can deliver the quality of service (QoS) required to support realtime voice and video as well as service level agreements (SLAs) that guarantee bandwidth. Large enterprises may also use MPLS in their national networks
