Don worry.........Tagazoo

Some times things will come adverse to you even after taking all the precautions.... Lets think the other way...if we look back we escaped from so many accidents even some times becoz of our mistake or carelessness....we may not remember that for ever.....

I am not sure whether you are surprised, complaining or just simply awed and reporting these "broken" cars. But that's already a reality here in Doha. Expect more. We just need to be extra careful while driving here. I always remind my wife and daughter to be extra vigilant but no overacting. "

-----> after 8 years in doha you really think that I am complaining ??? Yes this is reality in Doha. Car wreckage everywhere you go :)

I did a 'defensive driving' course when I arrived here, organised by my husband's company. It was VERY interesting, but the most interesting thing of all, was that the instructor had been brought over from the UK to teach the cops here how to drive properly. (he himself was an ex-cop) However, when he got here, the Chief of Police decided that his cops didn't need to be trained, as 'Allah will protect'. Nuff said............

Lol, I have changed cars yearly thank God.

NFH, I have been rear ended 7 times, 4 of those were at roundabouts, the others have been while I was parked.

2 times I have been hit when I wasnt even in the car.

I have been side swiped 3 times on the highway by people trying to change lanes without looking, 1 time I was hit by a guy who was trying to cut into a queue at mach 10.

2 times as I have said.... my fault. The remaining accident was in a gas station, I was pulling ahead to go to the end pump and some numpter sped in the opposite direction and hit me.

Ohhhh, merging is illegallll....That's why so many people just pass you by and don't let you in.

It's really got nothing to do with ignorance or lack of courtesy!

You are fortunate NFH, in 11 years I have been in a total of 15 accidents, 2 of which were truely my fault (one rear end at a signal, it was a flashing yellow in my defense :) and another I was the only car, ringing phone in the backseat, R/A ahead... you get the point )

Each and everytime I have been initially blamed, but with a great deal of explanation, drawing diagrams of the incident and having my large aggressive arab husband with me by the graces of God I didnt get blamed for all of them.

Merging into traffic seems to be ilegal here as the police told me in one accudent I should have gone straight and not tried to merge with my signal on. Funny, a signal in Qatar seems to indicate you can turn wherever you like, even if it is turning right when you are in the left lane. Wonder how that works

To be fair...I've been in 2 accidents here, both other drivers were Qatari men, and neither was my fault.

The first one was a high school kid who pulled out of a parking lot right into me.

The second one was with a COP (the WORST drivers of all), who ran a stop sign, pulled out in front of me, and never even looked in my direction.

I don't think they could have tried to blame that on me...it was very clear what had happened.

Plus, my Arabic-speaking husband showed up on the scene with 2 attorneys from the office, lol!

When the supervising officer came and asked the driver how it happened (in Arabic), the reply was "I wasn't paying attention".

DUH.

Smashed cars.....Another Normal day out in Qatar...;-)

By Amoud• 1 Mar 2009 08:13

Novi it seems no matter what you do, as a woman here the accident is always your fault.

I had 2 accident here, one of them I was trying to merge into traffic (at a snails pace) and was hit from the left side and the secoond time I hit someone trying to merge funnily enough almost in the same place and both times were my fault. A third accident I was parked waiting for the light to change and a guy was inching in and hit the side of my car. Guess what? My fault. I had to take my husband to the police station and he was yelling in the end asking how is it automatically my fault everytime, was it because I am a woman? Another officer came and decided it wasnt my fault as the car was in the right lane and in park. Turns out the guy had a warrant out for his arrest for hit and runs, no insurance or registration on the car for the last 3 years.

Viva la Qatar police!!_____________________________________________________

I'm coming to Doha in a few months and am REALLY looking forward to it. The only apprehension I have is the traffic so have already decided to get cruiser. Are you really safer in one of these? Or is your life still in danger every time you hit the roads. I used to live in Istanbul where the traffic can be crazy... can anyone out there comment on the difference between Istanbul and Doha traffic?

its part of the scenery here...cars abandoned on the side of the road smashed up, or having a lane or two closed by what usually is a signal crash....thats the reason when in the beginning of the winter i decided i would get a bike for a couple of months, when i was buying the helmet a friend told me its not falling of you got to worry about, its being rammed by a big 4X4 of the road....

Finally after 4 weeks of searching found a reasonable car on QL. It is good old British Land Rover Discovery.. The model is a bit old but is quite nice and clean..

So I guess I will be safe now from the maniac drivers let loose on Doha's Roads.

Saw a similiar smash up between the Aiprort signal and Gulf Cinema Signal on the C Ring Road going westbound around 12pm..

That time the roads are supposed to be quite but still smash ups? In the case drivers were Asian from the sub continent

Alexa ... i am in the borderline of going cookoo. I had an accident because an idiot overtake me from the inside when I am trying to pull out to the main road.

He call what so call 'witnessed' 10 mins after the accident, police with zero english came, and voila .... everything is my fault ! Came to the police station the next day with husband to appeal, talk to the police who speaks better English, and it is still is my fault.

Looks like it was a rough weekend out there lol!

Last night I drove over that way to take son to his friend's house. Only had TWO near-death experiences..not bad for that distance.

THEN, he calls me 30 min after I get home and informs me they've decide to go to City Center. Grrrrr, I drove him all the way to the other side of town on a Fri night so he could go to CC, 5 minutes away from home..........!!
