Mysterious-iPhoneGirl
The "iPhoneGirl" remained unidentified till now. But the image of the smiling factory worker flashing a V sign continued to enchant Netizens across the planet.
Six days ago she labored in the obscurity of a southern China factory. But thanks to the instant connectivity of the cyber world, she is now known as "iPhoneGirl" to millions of people around the globe - all because of an apparently inadvertent photo slipped into an Apple cell phone that was shipped to England!
The young woman's brush with fame began on August 20 when an iPhone buyer in the United Kingdom calling himself "markm49uk" wrote in an online iPhone and iPod forum that he found some unusual pictures on his new handset. When he activated his phone, a young woman wearing a striped pink work uniform smiled back at him.
He wrote on the forum: "Not sure if this is or is not the 'norm' but I just received my brand-new iPhone here in the UK and once it had been activated on iTunes I found that the home screen already had a photo set against it !!!! It would appear that someone on the production line was having a bit of fun has anyone else found this?"
Forum participants were attracted by the young worker's whimsical charm and dubbed her "iPhoneGirl." The story and her picture spread quickly.
China's Southern Metropolitan Daily took up the chase and reported that the woman worked at a Foxconn Technology Group factory in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province. But the report did not reveal iPhoneGirl's name.
Several bloggers feared that the photo incident might cost iPhone girl her job. Foxconn admitted the woman was an employee but said she had not been fired.
The company said the worker might have taken pictures to test the phone but forgot to delete them. Foxconn did not identify the woman or reveal any additional information.
The company makes the iPhone and iPod in its domestic factories. The Foxconn plant in Shenzhen alone has 200,000 employees.
