Need information on Firefighters and Stewardesses

By Gypsy

Hi Guys, I'm home in Canada and some of my relatives are interested in moving to Doha. One of them is a certified Fire Fighter and the other is 18 and looking at becoming a Stewardess.

Does anyone have any information on where they could look for work?

Canada has a lot of problems with unions and minority rights. In that there are too many of them and they are taken to extremes.

A black lesbian with one eye and one leg would get free education, disability payments and her pick of whatever job she wants even if she isn't qualified for it. It gets a little irritating after you spent $50,000 getting an education you can't use because of the colour of your skin, your sex, or your lack of a physical or mental disability.

I believe in people being treated equally on the basis of education and experience. If you're family makes below a certain amount you should be given a free education, not because of the colour of your skin, or if you have the experience and education you should get the job, not because you're in a wheelchair.

18 is cruel age to be in Doha....I know friends who's kids turned 18 and they have left for obvious reasons.

I also have a couple of friends who work for QA, and have had conversations with stewardesses about working conditions...DONT DO IT....they are treated like dirt, underpaid, overworked and stressed out!!

you are very right. I remember the police force in canada advertising and asking the south asians to join the police force. They even went as far to hold a career fair on the church street (the place where gays hang out) and asked the gays to join the police force. I dont have anything against the gays but isnt that too much. There is no restriction on the gays joining the police force but asking gays specifically to join the police (i think its just too much)

Moreover Air Canada sucks big time. They have a union now and you can see 50 year old ladies working in as stewards. They tried forcing the old ladies on ground duty but the union jumped in and this became a discrimination on the basis of age. Air Canada has the worst service of all airlines.

Most things like the police or fire brigades here are forced by law to meet a certain quota of minorities. This means that with the number of Caucasian Canadians already in the positions that for the past 10 years or so they have only hired minorities.

Because he's white ? That's the first time I hear of something like that.

No I'm not winding anyone up Jauntie. My cousin is fresh out of high school and looking to travel, and her brother is a certified fire fighter who can't get on a Canadian brigade because he's white. I told them both to look in Doha.

why you don't try in Air Canada and also lot of other airlines in toronto looking for new empolyees ,wages are good , i think air canada start from 40000 to 55000 c$

Basic if you fly a lot in a month you will get 6500. There are people who like it but I bet they aint From Western Europe, North America.

Sadly the airline like quite a few places here does tend to exploit the poorer girls from some countries after all if you are pretty working for the airline sure beats being a maid. Ask your self how many white faces you see on your flight serving you. ????

But anyone with an ounce of sense (this does not imply those working for the airline don't have sense, I mean those thinking about it !!!)would not think twice, although saying all this I do know someone who loves it. Well she loves flying not all the crap she puts up with from the airline.

Ethiad now they have a new CEO is miles better in every aspect. Emirates is starting to get a bad reputation, expanding too quickly cutting corners etc.

In this Area go for Ethiad, Emirates Gulf Air then Qatar.

I know that Qatar Fire Brigade is really in need of certified fire fighters. I am telling you this as I met a very senior guy last year and he told me that they are desperately looking for fire figthers. Sorry unfortunately I dont have link to that guy anymore coz i met him through a friend. I can tell you he sits on the third floor.

I have just read the forum. I didn't realise they were treated that bad at QA but the forum obviously tells a different story. I travel quite frequently with them and I do sometimes wonder why the stewardesses put up with some of the things I see.

What I mean is loads of people apply because they think its Glam ETC, perhaps even after getting turned down by another airline. What they don't realise is that they are so desperate that as long as you meet the minimum height requirement and are reasonably presentable you will be offered a job. And that is where the trouble begins !! :(

In my post I am clearly stating that I do not think Gypsy's relative is or poor standard, because if she is related to Gypsy this couldn't be true ha ha. :)

Anyway check the forums I mentioned Jauntie they are a good laugh and make for some enlightening reading even if you don't want to be with an airline.

Are they really desperate? Irrespective of age?

I think I may apply ....

oh - maybe you meant gypsy's relative was too young :(

With reference to Qatar Airways if she is from Canada I STRONGLY advise about not even thinking about it.

Loads of people get accepted by the airline here, and that is because their standards are so low as they are blo0dy desperate for staff. The only problem is they have such a poor reputation amongst English speaking nations that no one wants to join them.

Please advise them to look at the following website

http://www.pprune.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=40

and forum

http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?t=278369

By the way I am not saying that your relatives standards are low what I mean is they might apply and get accepted easily, and then make the worst decision of their lives. Oh and the starting wage is about 3000 Rials.

You know all the rest about the good and bad bits of Doha but the Airline is all Bad, wait till Al Baker leaves, drops dead or is murdered by all the people who hate him then apply.

Ethiad (Abu Dhabi based) airlines presently has a good reputation with many people leaving Qatar for them, as they have no 6 month embargo. They have just taken on a new CEO and apparently he is Aces.

The Forums I mention will help

Cheers

Oh and I know my cousin can look at Qatar Airways for stewardess positions, I was just wondering if there is a course or something that she can take in Qatar.
