Friends,

I am in trouble, my trusted friend has cheated me.

Few days ago story:

He promised me through email that 100000 QR (one lac) he will as a help as i ve loan in Qatar and i will repay in equal installments. He said give me cheque i will arrange the money.

I gave him the cheque. after few days he deposited the cheque in my accounts and got sms from the Bank.

In this circumstances how i can report to Qatar police, human rights or labor department as this done by one Qatari and Qatari said if i approach to any one then he will use his resources & black list me in the GCC as well & do more actions. I am upset & afraid now as well.

He is unnecessary playing with me as we are weak expats.

Dear Sir,

What we understand is that the cheque got bounced but "friend" did not made a case against you for the bounced cheque.

Well we believe you are not in good position as of now because if he take legal action against you for the bounce cheque.

You will prevented from travelling and sentenced to imprisonment or fine or both.

1. Since the police complaint has not been filed, nothing to worry about.

2. You are 100 percent safe, if you visit the Capital Police or Airport Police, but since the police complaint is not there, you do not need to do that either.

3. The return check does not make anyone black list, do not worry.

The reality is that wasta does work. However, if you're in the right , I'm sure the police and the courts will take your side.. The choice is yours....

I asked pls return my returned cheqie, he said dont worry i will not give to police but i will return u soon. He said go complain to anyone as i am Qatari and good connections in CEID will put u in jail and may black list u in GCC. I ve only email that in which we talked about that 100000qr deal and nothing else. But i am afraid if i visit to police, may be i wiould in more trouble by that Qatari

You can cheque at the airport police booth, if there has been a "Travel Ban" put up on your I.D. due to the captioned cheque return unpaid complaint.

If not, then nothing to worry.

Another option is that let the police transfer this cheque return complaint, (if the police complaint has been made by the beneficiary of the cheque), to the prosecution department. in the prosecution department you can explain your exact scenario, and for sure you get the relief, because this department is responsible for "Fair Trial" if this complain has to mover further in the civil court.

You can write to the Bank directly, requesting them to make "Stop Payment" on your captioned cheque.

There is a procedure to do that, after which, you should not worry about the dishonor of your cheque, because then you can explain to the police that the payment against this cheque has been stopped.

Note, the police compliant on a bounced cheque is only applicable if the cheque has been bounced due to the reason of "No Fund" and not by the reason of "Stop Payment".

Another option is to to drag on this issue, for six months, after which a period, this cheque shall become "Stale" or simply Expired in the legal term, thus requiring your consent to re-validate it by new date along with your fresh signature.

Dear Sir,

Your original post and also your subsequent reply is confusing.

If there was written agreement then approach police otherwise you forget the money.

I guess all throughout, you have been foolish. Why did you give him a check without taking the money and that too such a high amount? He sure was clever and has put you into deep trouble by cheating you out. I don't believe the police or the court could help you out in this situation as he has something in writing in his hand while you have only verbal promises which carry no weight at all. All I can visualize is difficult days for you ahead,

As for the comment above that you should "meet him over dinner, talk to him a nice way," it is a silly proposition and nothing new from the person who posted this comment. He has written such things many times earlier also. He keeps on giving such "philosophical" ideas every now and then.

So what's the issue ?
