The new "old" me

Tigasin321
By Tigasin321

Good morning everyone. I realised this morning that I was struggling to fit into a suit that just a year ago hung off me. Further examination showed that I have gone from a 30 inch waist to a 32 inch waist in just one year.

One year ago I was a slim fairly atheletic non smoker and moderate drinker. I now look like a fully paid up member of the "Garveys Race". Has anyone else had a similar experience?

So what's the plan? Very simple. In management consultant speak it is a 3 step plan commencing 1 July.

1. Give up smoking
2. Gym three times per week
3. Detox diet

I am going to need some help. Anyone care to join me?

to hear that and I don't mind if you will modify my posts to update it with more useful tips. Maybe the next get together we would discuss about our new business [The Gym] hehehee. Could not make it to Rydgez last Friday, was supposed to come but something happened.

Just go ahead and post more, .. so we would have more to talk about next gathering.

out of clips...although, I LOVE the smell of baking bread...its alcohol. Darn all those empty calories...

Was right where I wanted to be, bodywise, a year ago, then started school and it stressed me out, so my flatmate and I, (she went to the same school), would go out for dinner at this one restaurant, sit at a table overlooking the bar area, split a meal, and drink one glass of wine, while watching the men play pick up chicks... Well, the bartender who was there, thought we were funnier than the guys picking up women and she would send over free glasses of wine..and of course, being the nice mannered person I am, couldn't refuse such hospitality, so drank them..therein lies my downfall...

King, you got the right stuff going buddy!!! Want to start a gym together??? LOL Sorry I cut and pasted a bit of your earlier post and added a bit of mine to it..

1- Drinking coffee- he's right about this one..actually is also a diuretic, which strips the body of potassium, which if you drink enough of it, will cause muscle cramping, not to mention messing with your electrolytes. This is the reason when you drink a lot of coffee, you'll be in the toilet weeing all day. So..for every 8 oz cup you drink, replace it with 2 cups of water. Tea and diet soft drinks are the same as coffee, sorry folks they don't count as water!!

2- Having a perfect breakfast-AMEN to this one!!! Skip the bacon (ok so THAT'S not an issue here!)

3- Doing some exercises early in the morning for like 20 - 30 minutes - dead on about this one.

4- Drinking warm water in the morning with some drops of a lemon would also help - actually it does help in losing weight but its all water weight only. It does get the liver and kidneys functioning. Take a 16 oz water, heated in the microwave for a min(take the lid off the bottle folks or it could get exciting!), add 1/2 lemon. Watch out for the temp...it CAN get HOT!!!

5- Follow a 5 days training schedule it is more effective than others.(yes, yes, yes...)

6- Don't quit on eating, your body will get into starvation mode and anything you will eat would be a disaster because your body feels like it is in danger, starts converting anything you eat into fats.(YEAH KING!!!) It actually starts storing what little you do eat and messes up your metabolism totally. I've worked with people who were eating only 1000 cal per day and gaining weight. They'd screwed up their metabolisms so bad from lack of calories.

7- Drink water to get extra water out...yep make like a camel...drink up!! One more thing...don't drink TOO much water either...that can mess up your electrolytes and you have the same issues

8- Sleep early, nothing would create a problem and disturb your body like a bad sleep. ---I'll add in, don't sleep late if you stayed up the night before partying...it will throw your metabolism off. You can't catch up on missed sleep, your body doesn't work that way.

Majh, I've tried talking to him, telling him that we want him to live longer, do it for the sake of ur kids, etc, but it's not working. He's not a big smoker, so I kind of accepted it because it's his stress reliever and it has to come from him, as much as I talk to him he won't listen if he doesn't want to quit. Fingers crossed his "revelation" comes soon!

mainly your hands and mouth..both are used for smoking and that's part of the habit. Break that part or otherwise occupy it and that's half the battle. Just don't use food as a substitute. both my parents quit and used that method. If you have to use something use the Nicoderm to get you through the day...nothing wrong with that at all.

Give you some incentive...my dad had a massive heart attack 25 years ago, and he barely made it. Cardiologist said he was about 20 pounds overweight and smoking but...the weight didn't matter as much as the smoking did. Said the weight could wait(sorry folks!) but for every cigarette he smoked, he tripled his heart rate, which wore out the muscle. Evidently the contractions with the lack of oxygen from the smoke make for a VERY bad combination.

Hi everyone,

I love Richard123's plan....but i am somehow stuck with number 1..how can u really quit? i did years ago...and went back in less than 6 months...besides losing weight and quitting r a great healthy upgrade with one flaw...once u quit smoking u gain weight...so i would suggest this ,get rid of the extra weight, then quit...?

any ideas?

Will tell you about something here :) :

1- Drinking coffee that got caffeine in there would always prevent your body from losing weight. It is irritating the Pancreas and asks it to inject more insulin in the blood, that won't help you in losing weight. It would help you in getting the water inside your body out.

2- Having a perfect breakfast will provide you with energy all the day and will help you also in losing your weight.

3- Doing some exercises early in the morning for like 20 - 30 minutes will provide you with an amount of energy for like 2 - 3 hours daily.

4- Drinking warm water in the morning with some drops of a lemon would also help, it does not help in losing weight like most of people do believe .. it would help your liver in getting cleaned of the different harmful and poisonous substances there ..

5- Follow a 5 days training schedule it is more effective than others.

6- Don't quit on eating, your body will get into starvation mode and anything you will eat would be a disaster because your body feels like it is in danger, starts converting anything you eat into fats.

7- Drink water to get extra water out, your body is storing water inside because you are not drinking enough water, it is trying here to establish a balance between the amount of salts that you got there and that is why when you eat without drinking water, your body will get extra Sodium inside and to balance that amount it will store water everywhere in your body. When your body feels that it gets enough water, it will automatically release all of this extra water ... no need to torture yourself with Sauna and other stuff. Drink a cup of water after the Sauna and ooops I'm fat again.

8- Sleep early, nothing would create a problem and disturb your body like a bad sleep.

Wish that it helped man, .. got more for you here .. but this much is enough i guess :)

I'm staying at the hotel, so I go to the gym quite often anyway. One of the instructors told me they just opened up for members, and that they're running promotions. Part of it is that if you join now, you won't pay till July.

I like their equipment, and there's always staff around to help you out with your training program. They're also going to start aerobics lessons. But I haven't seen any other gym in Doha, so not quite sure how they compare.

to the individual person as to what they do or not do. When I am in a mind to lose weight and get in shape..I still go out, I just choose not to drink or eat off my plan. Yep, I get ribbed about it, but in the end I am happy with who I am and that I am a strong enough person to do as I like. I can't imagine never speaking to my parents, ok my mom, since my dad passed away 6 years ago. Believe me, when you lose a parent(friend, sibling, spouse), you'll have wished you talked to them. That's something you can NEVER replace..time spent with people you love. Spitefulness is self abusive...only hurts the person being spiteful. One last thing...when you have that championship belt, will you be happy all alone??? or will you wish to have someone in which to share your joy?

You need to stay away from the people who drag u there, if u didnt care about your health and physique then it wouldnt matter u could keep partying with them, but if its really important to you which it obviously is then u need to seperate yourself from the "group" because beleive me everyone is with you when its time to have fun but if god forbid anything happens to u then you wont find any of them there to help u.

I'm a professional athlete and in such a negative place such as Qatar where people only care about making money and then partying their misery away on weekends it pretty much meant i needed to eliminate social life completly if i was to get anywhere.

I dont even speak to my parents and we live in the same house!! Because they are Qatarized that its second nature for them to put me down or discourage me when they see me trying to be healthy or exercise.

Yeah sure its a lonely way to go, but who will be the flabby loser in the end? and who will be holding the championship belt?

I even hire a personal trainer when I want to get back into shape for just that reason..get my rear in gear and back on track! Last time I lost weight (which stayed off 6 years, thanks to working out!) I lost an extra 5 pounds, which made me look anorexic, to which all my friends very quickly told me!) but I was going on a cruise and I wanted to "eat" my way back up to my regular weight..lol Which, I did...and man was it fun! Now that I'm getting older, working out is a necessity for weight loss and even just to maintain my weight. Tell you, getting older just stinks at times!

Let me give you some of my favorite diet suggestions instead:

1. The vodka diet (works wonders)

2. The icecream diet (especially in summer here it seems a good choice)

3. The tuna diet (works really well, but is pretty hard to stick to)

Goodluck!
