New PC

Hi,

I'm off to buy a new PC for the home tonight. I want to avoid Carrefour and am thinking about PC One. Is this wise ? I like the look of the HP Pavilion compact tower. Is there anywhere else in Doha worth going to ?

Well,

I would recommend you to go to National or Sophitel and get one assembled for you. since you are looking to upgrade your PC later on, it will be easy for you with Assembled PC. Most of the branded PC's come tightly packed and there is will hardly any option left for you to upgrade it.

To tell you in detail, I am currently using:

1 HP Compaq desktop (office)

1 Dell desktop

2 HP Laptops (home)

1 Acer laptop (home)

1 Assembled pc (home)

out off all these, the best performance is assembed pc and you will be surprised to know its 5 years old and stil does not required an upgrade....

:-)

One last thing, if you buy branded PC you will not get any software other than operating system which is most commonly Microsoft Vista home edition. If you get it assembed, simple ask them to put all important software and they will do it for you for no extra cost...

All the best of luck for your new PC.

one most imp reason y u buy a desktop and not laptop is , inspite of all the features , long working hourse on lapop takes away the battery life.

Whats the reason to buy a Desktop and not a laptop? (since you talk about the "tower")

Give me one reason other than the price.

I guess the wi-fi laptop with onboard webcam is a very good solution both compact, and a good for everything...I guess all brands have it.

Just go and have a look and after that look also at Jarir and compare. Don't rely on the information of the salesmen. Just make sure you already know what you are looking for, for me that's always the best. Otherwise you could end up with something you didn't want to buy.

Yes that would worry me too lol

Hubby bought a laptop from Carrefore and what he thought was office 2007, when in fact it was an office upgrade.

he bought the office upgrade from Virgin and they wouldn't refund him anything, so we had to scout about for an old editon of Office so we could eventually use the upgrade...I think he ended up buying it on Amazon or something.

I can understand wanting to avoid Carrefore especially on a Thursday night, however the Laptop we bought is great and we've had no problems what so ever. It was also a few Riyals cheaper than Virgin.

welcome to the wonderful world of shopping in qatar. The best advise I can give is dont bother over the phone, when you go to the store if you can't find it dont bother asking if they dont speak english well, as the only replies you will get is, yes, inshalla maybe next month or my personal fav leave your number and we will call you when it comes in ( I am still waiting to hear from Toys R Us about a jungle gym for my kids, its been about 18 months now) so happy shopping.

In PC one I asked if they had microsoft office, they said they have no office but a coffee shop......that got me worried !
