I partially agree with you in certain aspects. But changes will happen.

Politics is like a seasonal jacket, if you are real cold, you wear the liner, If you are too hot, you remove the liner and open the vents.

You misunderstood my point. If you read my other responses, I have condemned both Israel and Hamas for thir use of weapons.

As far as Obama is concerned. Obama cannot make statements regarding this 'thorny" issue because Bush is still President and he cannot and will not say anything that goes against current government policy.

Secondly, whatever the rights and wrongs, America is the main ally of Israel. Due to the strong jewish lobby and other self interests , I cannot see this position changing once Obama becomes president.

Would you agree or disagree with this ?

I meant 51st state.. thanks for correction Pope..lol

Away from the current conflict in the Gaza strip, How many nations do you know right of the back, support the Israelis? and then, How many nations support the palestinian cause?

But as always, I'm going to question your partial and bias comment, Did you forgot the reasons, why Obama stands behind his decision in supporting the Israelis?

Honestly, I don't agree with them in a lot of the stupid stuff they do, specially the month they pick for the aerial assault.

Here is the diplomatic failure on both sides.

One side decides to play outlaw by launching rockets across the fence, they know for fact, it will provoke their neighbors after so much spit firing down range.

In the other token, the israelis should have some leniency in letting in food , fuel and medical supplies.

But the problem lays down in smuggling arms and supplying the Hamas group, cause by using the convoys of relief either by land or the sea.

There is no trust in both sides.

What hurts me the most is the death of children and innocent people. Unfortunately in war, people die, birds die, nature gets hurt and there is enough negative sentiment to go around for another 50 years from generation to generation.

What should they do? Keep them living like animals in a corral or negotiate with a non existence government.

There is no easy ticket in this case, again and again for decades the conflicts and wars, will resonate our ears every day, every month, every year.

We cant blame one government for what is happening, I would blame both sides evenly.

i know some people would not agree with me at all on my point of view, but we just can throw the Jews to the ocean for some disputed land acquisition, barriers, human rights abuses or military retaliation or lost wars with territories.

I believe both sides have the right to co-exist together.

The fertile ground and magic wand is on each other hands, is to accept, respect and recognize each other as a nation and co-existent of each other boundaries.

There is a slight problem, when you have special interest groups (Iran,Syria etc, etc) hard liners or terrorist organizations influencing the palestinian cause, there will be no peace at all. Because they hate the Jews!

Egypt and Jordan did signed a peace treaty, recognizing the Israelis right as a nation.

Palestinian could do the same.

Right Said Pope.. I think you gave a fait account of the situation.

BritExpat said that he is President Elect. But what is confusing everyone is that this so called President Elect did not hold back and stay silience over what happened in Mumbai. So the conclusion is that Israel is and always will remain the 53rd state of America no matter which President gets in.

He is "president elect" and has to tow the official line at the moment.

Having said that, we all know that theer will be NO significant change in the new administration as far as policy with Israel is concerned.

Obama not sure.. he being so quite over the current Gaza crisis. Is he really going to be leader of significant International credentials or is he just going to please the local masses and distance himself from the real International issues.. Real surprised with his reaction.. or shall I say no action or comment on the current crisis.. Shame on you Obama...

And the latest one, massacre in Gaza. it`s not a good one to end this year

I agree with tubelight, the gaza massacre is the worst way to end the new year for the Palestinians and for the world to witness this. whilst we are all looking forward to a great healthy new start to the year, others didnt make it and the rest in Gaza well, i dont need to say anything about what they have to look forward to 2009, but hopefully its peace.

Nicolas Sarkozy and Carla Bruni...

just kidding!

I'd have to say the Obama win. I'm kind of tired of all the exposure (well, not all of it...the shirtless shot was pretty good), but his victory was a huge historical moment.

For me, the Top Story has to be Barack Obama becoming President.

After all the goings on of the last eight years, he brings hope. What he will actually do remains to be seen.
