NIPPON AIRLINE STRUCK BY THUNDERBOLT IN OSAKA
Wow! Once in a lifetime for the crew, and photographer.
Entered the nose and exited the tail. Reckon what the peak voltage was??
Never mind the voltage, the peak current was phenominal , the voltage across the plane must have been low since the plane was acting as a conductor. If the plane was a bad conductor (high resistance) it would have melted the plane. The fact that the plane was able to conduct the current saved the day.
Spectacular shot of a Nippon Airline being struck by lightning in Osaka .
Amazing that the aircraft itself and the people and equipment inside can survive such a hit!
Even more amazing that there was someone to film it in real time!!
Aircraft getting hit by lightning is not an unusual circumstance. Getting a great picture is!
Mandi
No, they don't.
I thought planes crashed when lightening strikes and I am lucky to survive.
The plane is a Faraday Cage.
That is something else
Amazing...
