NO LABOR CONTRACT

I want to ask you guys what is the consequences of having different labor contract from the job offer I got back home. At first, I didnt sign it but when I called our store manager and some of my collegue they told that they had also same case and that it is only for visa porpuses, so I signed it. I found out that all of the employee of the said International Company has no copy of the contract though they give the same salary stated in the offer letter. Is it legal to do such "for visa purposes?" Hope we can find an answer.
