Nokia crisis!Help sought! :'(

Dear all,

I bought a Nokia 500 mobile fone last october. Since then, it has been eating up my credit for no reason. Every now and then,I get charged a couple of dirhams for nothing!

1- I do not have Whatsapp (I did....but later uninstalled it as it was eating up my credit too)
2- I do not make too many calls anyways
3- I do not use it for internet...unless I am at home or/and have a sound Wi-Fi connection

So that's No calls,No chats and No internet......then where the heck is all the money going?I'm scared to charge more than QR.10/- everytime now.... :-( I've tried everything...the credit keeps dipping slowly and steadily...and I'm clueless whom to approach now?

QTel or Nokia?

Any help will be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Check with Qtel and check your device. I have a Nokia 6150 Classic with my wife back home which was eating the credit like this. We got it checked and was told that the phone is in good condition and no virus but we noticed that it is making some calls of its own. We changed the phone with a new Samsung and no more trouble.

Also take a note of what jhonnkarl posted. Switch off your 3G connection while using wifi.

without wanting to sound too 'duh',i must say that there's a tiny '3.5G' right under the network bar.....dunno if that's some kinda indication.coz it simply refuses to go away at any time!

honestly,i have no idea what that means :-(

they would not need to see the phone, they shud have details of all ur transactions. its not the phone that can take ur credit, the credit u get from ur sim card and is managed by the service provider. u shud give them a call and ask what r u being charged for.

ARE YOU SURE THAT YOUR DATA CONNECTION IS TURNED OFF? LIKE GPRS, WIFI OR 3G NETWORK OR MAYBE THE NETWORK 3G IS OPEN. EVEN YOU ARE USING THE WIFI AS LONG AS THE 3G NETWORK IS OPEN, THE CREDIT WILL BE ON YOUR NETWORK AND NOT ON THE WIFI.

make sure that u r connecting to internet through wifi and not through gprs also note that the maps and other gps based programs will try to connect to net sometimes, if u r sure abt the above, then obviously there is a virus in ur mobile which is connecting to internet or sending sms/mms from ur mobile so go to nokia and let them format it for u.

good luck

if your nokia 500 is running in the latest OS (nokia Belle), you can tap and scroll down the notification tab. then you will see mobile data and wifi just disable them.
