Do you think I should post this in the educational forum?

or would it make things more complicated.

thanks

Most probably it will have conversational Qatari Dialect and Qatari Culture. Once the classes are established we usually move into basic Arabic.

Thanks for checking

Maybe it's in the Education forum - I better apologise to Qatari :D

I would be interested in taking the language classes, in the Sa'ad area.

This is such a great idea for learning the local dialect!

having done a Saudia 'jeddah dialect' Arabic course YEARS ago I bought my scribbled verbs and cassettes (yes cassettes) with me, but I'm not sure it would be understood here, so this opportunity to learn local 'slang' you said? would be GREAT. Bonus being to meet some of Qataris ladies.

Who teaches there if you don't mind my asking?

adriana: If they agree "not" to have the classes in Wakara, we hope to open no later than November.

Maxximo: I have been pushing for the same classes for men for years!!! But it seems like the best of the Qatari men are so busy with their jobs. I am also very picky who teaches to insure the best results for both the learning environment and meeting the needs of the expats. I hope something changes this year!!

Jauntie: I will be sure to get back to you as soon as I have information. The more people answer the 1 minute survey, the faster I will know if this center will open. I need to show them that there is a need for these classes (by numbers).

So spread the word.

I can e-mail anyone the survey if you want to forward it to your friends.

Just e-mail me at

[email protected]

They are very committed. I expect that they will continue the services as long as people are interested. Each person will receive a certificate from the Cultural Center for the classes they took. For those who want to audit the class, no problem. As far as the books and CD's they are not very expensive. Maybe 45 QR for the book and 6 QR for the CD.

take care

I would be very interested to attend these classes.

I'm not working and so am available day or evening (preferably day if I have the choice) and I guess Montaza is my nearest location and next would be Villagio but any of the locations, provided they are within a reasonable distance would be OK. My geography of Doha not that great yet :(

Please contact me when you have more information.

The NPO owns a lot of businesses and schools. They want to open up a Cultural/language center for the "guests of Qatar" to learn so they can learn about Qatari culture and language (They knew how popular QCPI's Culture and Language program was).

They also are aware that it is almost impossible for women to meet Qatari women face to face in Qatar (since it is a very private society).

They are committed to bridging cultures.

Yes the program is complimentary; the participants only have to pay for their books and audio CD's

Take care

Jennifer

This is again a great iniative and I would be interested, however my time is evenings and it doesn't really matter where (apart from Wakra)as I have a car.

I think it is very kind that people are willing to offer their time to help expats.

sorry, but by "primary area" do you mean location or something else?

Also all the teachers are qualified Qatari women (who have at least 4 years experience teaching expats Qatari slang)

and what would the primary area of this specific NPO be?
