i've read the thread,

it has much of fun than real serious topic to solve an issue, but many posts were nice show sympathy with Rich,

even i'm new here but i believe that any employer considers the accomodation rates in Qatar, which should be aware of before coming to Qatar,

even some can safe from their accomodation allowence, through sharing either with others or renting with cheaper prices.

at the end Rich could to solve his problem, and have an isolated room :), and he won't be bothered by any, and this is the nice end of the story :)

yes, i found a place already...private studio...outskirts of town (no city lights in my eyes), sat tv, fully furnished, washer..etc...2600/mo. AND i can have a fire pit outside, the owner doesnt care....movin at end of feb.

The local perception of the whites is GENERALLY lack of a value system that is in line with Islamic principles. NB: I said "generally". The Western concept of fundamental liberties and freedoms are a little over the top for the locals. They won't tell it to your face as it's not the custom to.

But I only hear this problem about the singles - male or female (more difficult). Those with families are generally fine with accommodation - but they have other issues eg. expensive schooling etc.

Well...do i have great luck lately or what? First off...thurs nite i was jumped by 5 or 6 indians near sofitel area....i didnt wanna fight..but they gave me no choice...pulled a muscle in my ribs...and man that hurts. Then, friday...i went to the apt that i found for 2500...fully furnished whole 1 bedroom apt...and the agent said he wont rent to me. I said to him, thats kinda racist, isnt it? his reply? "Oh, no! It's nothing like that. It's just that you're white!" HAHAHAHA....omg...and of course...he was also indian. wow....im waiting to see whats next, as they say these things come in 3's. lol

I am an American also, and to be truly honest... I haven't witnessed any racism towards me but your experience might be different. But I noticed you said you can only afford 2k-2.5k for an apartment. I haven't seen that yet... unless you want to share with someone else, but I doubt that you will since you have a wife and a kid. I will ask around for you, if you are still interested but I highly doubt it. From what I noticed the price ranges are mostly 5k-10k a month.

Ok let me tell you my story RichC, I don't make too much money either and could afford only sharing accomodation.. Pinoy said Filipinos only, Most Indians said from South india Only, Muslims said Muslim only but I never considered that racism, it's just their desire to live with people from their part of the world. I lived in a hotel for one month and paid huge sum of money, for me it was huge anyway as I couldn't find a place to stay even after one month. I didn'tt even know about this site back then otherwise could have posted classified here but to call it racism??? I don't think so..

i can afford 2-2.5K.....lol.....i make less than most flat rentals...unless u know of a very small flat....i rent a room w/ a bath in a 3 bedroom flat for 3K...the flat alone is 9K..i dont even make that....

Didnt hear any American or European going for a shared accommodation...that is mostly for the nationalities you mentioned and thats why you see it like that...if you cannot go for a villa as you say you dont make like other Americans or Europeans then try going for an apartment.
