Hi!

I am interested in starting a business in Qatar.

Apart from the usual direction to the ministry of Industries,
Can any one explain the practical hurdles which one faces,
when doing business in Doha/Qatar?
By the by the business which i want to start is a legitimate
one. No shadowy things..A very straight one.

Any good suggestion/views/advice..

what business do u want to do? i think ppl would be able to advice accordingly. i have been in the contracting business... its not a pretty picture but if luck is on ur side... then u can be very successful in this region.

in any case, for anyone to really help, you would have to deciede what business do u want to start.

Ofcoure, CYman..2.5% is fair.

That brought me out of the shock.

Thank Copper!

Very good suggestion. Ofcourse, without 200,000/- there is no use in starting a business.

Let me not discourage you if you're planning to start business here.

If you find a good sponsor, you'll not have to pay him the percentage of your business, even if he is 51% partner, legally.

To save any future troubles with your sponsor, you can register it WLL.For this, you'll need to show a bank balance of 200,000Qr in your account(normally for a week). This will give you power to sign your papers as the owner of the business and not wait for your sponsor. However, please be aware that you'll have to show complete records of the a/c and stats to the govt.,after 12 months(you'll have to pay fine if you fail to do so).

Hope this will help you.

2nd thing i learned today on QL, but i do know some that take 50%, but thats a small enterprise and the local does do work..... brings a smile to your face, plus that is sponsorship - not the same as having your own company.

I'm glad I was wrong :-)

our sponsor who is a sheikh receives 2.5% on the turnover. Usually it's 3%

Mac1, I suggest that you first find a sponsor. Then take everything else from there

May the roof above us never fall in, and may the friends below never fall out!

No locals won't put 50 in unless you have a local friend...... but they will take 51% of profit - even if they do nowt. Although you may be luck and get one that only takes 10%......... if you are lucky

That's one of the problems - lack of small to mediulm size businesses here - it will be the downfall of the country, well thats a bit strong but it could do SO much better if it opened up a little. I suppose that what the new body for development is...... i cant remeber its name.

Don't get me wrong, companies exist to import export etc.(!) NSS.

Is Q-tel competitive, is the booze souq?? why do |Qatari companies make 100's million prfit always uo 10-50% on previius year...... this is a state run country get used to it.

I know that it's booming business, and thus very competitive. To be able to set a business, u NEED to have a Qatari sponsor who *I think* automatically gets 50% of the company. And then u need to get a liscence from the ministry to set up the business, but they've become alot stricter in the past 2 years. (that's what I've heard)

mmm...If it is so bad..how they are importing goods like building

material and other things for the country's development!

How the market is competitive?
