Ok it's time - TO THE ADMINS & PAGE DESIGNERS

MissX
By MissX

I am hoping to get the attention of someone somewhere who will be able to get this up and running. I have previously written an email about this very important situation to the QL staff, but I have yet to see it implemented.

Please join me in my request for icons that can automatically take you to the last read post for each topic!!
I personally, am pretty sure I am starting to see the beginnings of RSS (Repetitive Stress Syndrome) from the constant scrolling and clicking and scrolling and more clicking as I attempt to make my way to the end of each topic to see what new comments the honourable members of QL have contributed. Imagine hour upon hour of all this valuable time wasted, when I could instead be dispensing my incredibly insightful knowledge in the form of posts on this forum, or even better yet....... could actually be doing my work.

There you have it, I have successfully managed to blame the QL page outlay design, for not working as hard as I should be.

Anyway, pleeeease QL staff add some icons that can shortcut us to the beginning of the new posts for the topics that we have read. I have examples of other forums, if they are required.

this is one of the Major concern that should be taken action by the ADmin of this site.. hope they will hear it... and they will be glad to do the task that have been assigned to them.. Inshallah!!!!

Its simple. give page links at the top of every page you can avoid scrolling. Make small pages for fast loading. make individual page links available on the recent posts page. Browsing QL becomes even tiresome when using dial up...just cann't get it why they cann't do it!!!...

Alrght MODs, thanks for your comments .. I agree on the crashing , which was quite serious and thanks for fixing it.I dont see much issues otherwise for a long list whereas these are the regular bugs to be given priority so far as any user is concerned.

Comments are meant only to improve QL for us users to have easier and better time with QL. Neither any offense nor meant to criticise. Thanks again.

agree with Arien, everytime you post a comment, it always goes back to the 1st page and you'd have to scroll back down again to go to last page..

By Arien• 22 Jun 2009 08:47
Arien

I had braught this issue up and suggested to have the link to the last page earlier, none botherd to consider from QL admin.

[mod note: For your information, QL admin have "bothered to consider" it. It is part of a long list of necessary improvements. We considered it more important to sort out the critical issue of the site crashing on a regular basis. I'm sure you'll agree this was a more pressing issue. So please be patient. QL is not our full time day job, but we're working as much as we can on it.]

secondly.. when you submit a comment in a thread, the page displays is the first page of the thread again, you have to curse down click at ''last'' .. go the last page to see ur comment.

Offlate , once you open QL, ''New Forum'' and ''HOt Topics" are not opening too immediatly.

totally Agree with you MissX. I hope they can resolve this issue as it is annoying through pages some times to get to the last post on a Thread.

Got you. It's always been like that. I assume for the same reason you described. Can be annoying. Not the end of the world though, imo.

By MissX• 22 Jun 2009 08:20
MissX

If it is a multiple page thread, the new posts are no longer labelled "New" in red down the bottom right hand side anymore. I assume that's because once you have viewed the thread on page 1, it auto deletes the "new" which would be on the following pages because the thread has been viewed, and technically no longer has any new posts.

By tallg• 22 Jun 2009 08:11
tallg

MissX says - "you can't even see which ones are the new posts anymore."

What do you mean? Nothing like that has changed for me.

I've also noticed recently that when i post a reply to a comment it doesnt show up, but i see that i've got 1 point for posting, it doesnt show up when i click on Recent posts either.

Yay someone supporting the cause.

My optimism is dwindling lol. Maybe we should start talking about controversial issues to get the admins attention!

but you have also given me info on how I can follow a particularly thread I have contributed to ...which I didn't know how to do before - so thanks for that

Other sites I use send a nice email notifying me that the thread has been updated,, which is great.

Hope things improve soon

Keep going MissX!

This is picture is obviously NOT me, I don't smoke..

Miss X

Excellent question/remark/suggestion.

I have always wondered why this was such a pain in the neck.

If this gets corrected, I will blame you :-)

By MissX• 17 Jun 2009 02:42

Well, it's time to activate this post again. Maintenance has occurred on the website, and not only can you still not get taken to the new posts on threads with multiple pages, you can't even see which ones are the new posts anymore. It didn't get fixed. It got worse!

Weee thanks Mod. I guess we can abandon this thread now lol.

By tallg• 12 May 2009 15:46

I explained that to you in the 3rd comment on this thread!!!

So your confusingly long post could be condensed into the following;

"Please fix the bug with linking to new comments on multi-page threads".

lol

By Moderator• 12 May 2009 15:44
Moderator

There is a site upgrade planned this month that will hopefully fix the bug with threads longer than one page.

By MissX• 12 May 2009 15:38
MissX

Ya ya I got it now. I didn't notice until you mentioned it lol. Sorry for being a dumbass.

BUT...I still want the multiple page ones to work! haha my protest is peetering off.

By tallg• 12 May 2009 15:36
tallg

"The single page ones aren't so bad because I only have to choose the topic and scroll down"

You don't even have to do that. As I've explained 3 times already, just click on the 'new' link in the 'replies' column and it will take you straight there. No need to scroll.

By MissX• 12 May 2009 15:34
MissX

Oops I meant "first post" not thread.

Most of the threads I am following are multiple page ones. The single page ones aren't so bad because I only have to choose the topic and scroll down, the multiple page ones I have to scroll down, select the last page, and then scroll down again.

By tallg• 12 May 2009 15:30
tallg

What do you mean by 'first thread'?

If you mean first comment, then on your track page you can click on '## new' and it will take you to the first comment of that thread that you haven't read (unless it's a multi-page thread).

By MissX• 12 May 2009 15:28
MissX

Well then I am campaigning for the bug to be fixed!!!

But I would also like the option to go to the first thread that I haven't read when I am looking at the topics I have contributed to, in the "Tracking" section of my profile.

By tallg• 12 May 2009 15:25
tallg

Ok, let me re-phrase it;

You want to jump to the first comment that you haven't read. You can do that on single page threads, but there's a bug which means it doesn't work on multi-page threads.

By tallg• 12 May 2009 15:23

tallg

Yes mandi, that is the bug that needs fixing.

MissX - you're not explaining yourself very well. You're right that there is an issue with going to the unread posts on multi-page threads. That's well know, but it's good to highlight it again.

However, on single-page threads it's possible to jump straight to the unread posts, as I've already explained.

By MissX• 12 May 2009 15:23
MissX

tallg the last unread post IS the last post. Unless you mean the last READ post. If that exists, then what am I doing creating this thread!!

By MissX• 12 May 2009 15:21
MissX

Sigh. Must I really keep contributing to my own thread just to keep it active? lol

The truth is, if I want to check the new posts about a particular thread, this is what I have to go through.

Click on my username

Click on track

Click on the particular topic I want to follow

Scroll to the bottom of the page

Click last to get to the last page

Scroll down and find the latest unread posts.

Other forums completely remove the need to do anything once you can see the topic title, and instead of needing to follow 6 steps, you will arrive at the same posts in 3. It would also speed up this website by eliminating the extra browsing caused by clicking on excessive links.

By Mandilulur• 12 May 2009 15:20
Mandilulur

I can't go to the last "unread" post if it is on a subsequent page.

let me know once new version released....Appreciate your effort to improvise the current version.

By tallg• 12 May 2009 15:18
tallg

But you can already go to the last 'unread' post, which is better than just going to the last post, in my opinion.

By MissX• 12 May 2009 14:24
MissX

Argh stop confusing the admins.

Keep it just as it is, but add a tiny icon next to each topic title which allows you to go straight to the unread posts when you click it.

I'll show you an example of another forum.

Here's the right hand side of that picture since it doesn't fit.

By tallg• 12 May 2009 14:17
tallg

The two things admin should fix are;

- Links to page numbers should be at top and bottom.

- Clicking on '## new' should take you to the new comment, even on multi-page threads.

Everything else is fine.

By atif242• 12 May 2009 14:13
atif242

only if i want to read the whole page otherwise it would be very convenient.

By DaRuDe• 12 May 2009 14:08
DaRuDe

you still will be scrolling down to read more and get to the last post of the page

so they still look better there.

By atif242• 12 May 2009 14:06
atif242

I don't mind at the arrangments ascending or descendig, my only request is that the NEXT/PREVIOUS buttons must be at the top too. So atleast any user can navigate through pages rather than he/she has to go all the way down to click them. DON'T U THINK??

By DaRuDe• 12 May 2009 14:04
DaRuDe

there was a time that last comment was on last page

and last post then members complained

then it was changed the latest comment would be the first one on topic then members complained

then it was changed again and the last comment went back to last page on last post.

AND STILL MEMBERS ARE COMPLAINING TO GET THE LAST POST FIRST ONE ON TOPIC

WHEN WILL YOU GUYS BE HAPPY WITH THIS SITE.

By MissX• 12 May 2009 13:59
MissX

In addition, in the actual forums they even have an active link that shows how many new posts there are, however when you click it, it merely takes you to the first post, not the new ones as it suggests.

By atif242• 12 May 2009 13:57
atif242

I'm totally with you. Come to my office !!!!

lolzzz

By MissX• 12 May 2009 13:54

Oh don't underestimate my abilities to be annoying. I'm keeping this topic alive everyday until the admins get sick of reading it. With your help of course :P

Well, I guess they could just delete it......

NO THAT'S WHAT THEY WANT US TO BELIEVE SO WE JUST GIVE UP!

I think I may have had a littttle bit too much caffeine this afternoon.

when thread increases for more than 1 page, it should directly take any new reader to the last page BY DEFAULT.

.

It should be upto him whether he wants to read the previous responses or not. Also, instead of going to the bottom of the page to click NEXT or PREVIOUS, the same buttons must be available at the top too. This will really help to navigate through different pages.

We have already tried telling so many times but it falls on deaf ears....

Earlier the page numbers were on top don't understand the logic of having the page numbers at the bottom.

Your post mentioned nothing about this only being a problem with multi-page threads. I assumed you were having issues on all threads.

The multi-page thing is a known bug that has been reported many times before.

By MissX• 12 May 2009 13:39

Yeah it's the multiple page ones that are the most difficult to navigate. All that extra unnecessary clicking.

Under the 'Replies' column on the 'Recent Posts' page ( www.qatarliving.com/tracker )you can click on '### new' and it will take you to the first new comment (i.e. the first one you haven't read).

However, this doesn't work if the thread is longer than 1 page.

It will take you to the end of the page, not the bottom of the posts. Instead of scrolling down, then you have to scroll up. Not helping my self induced RSS :P
