I have been offered a job in Oman and I was wondering if anybody on QL could give me their views of the place before I decide to move.
I have heard its a beautiful country but is it much different from Qatar?

Please and thankyou!

I work there half the time. Real estate companies include cluttons or search the web for oman homes (think it is omanhomes.com)

I have a friend who can help. She is an estate agent in Muscat. Her name is Leslie +968 99420865

Enjoy

has anyone here lived there recently?

Do you know anything about real estate companies or schools?

E i will have a search on QL and see if I can find the thread.

Timbo, thanks very much. I used to surf back in the UK and that has finally swayed it for me! I also like hill walking back in Scotland so i suppose that will be an option also.

Oman quite different in fact. People are much nicer for a start. Down to earth and honestly friendly.

Muscat is probably even quieter than Doha in terms of night life and shopping but it is very clean and the roads are great (driving is better too).

There are loads of great beaches, the sea is the indian ocean (more or less) so has a few more waves and is more pleasant to swim in.

There are also mountains everywhere which is a nice change from Doha's flatness.

The best bit about Oman though is the variety down the country. Southern Oman is about 15oC cooler year around and has green hills and river valleys. Half way down the country is an area famous for surfing with a steady trade wind. There are also turtle sanctuaries and great diving.

If you have family I would recommend it for a bit. Remember Dubai is abut 4 hours drive away if you need some nightlife and shopping.

Hi Rock, If you do a search you'll find a similar topic if I recall correctly.

Good luck.

its lovely with lots of places to go on the weekend.

Muscat is a more 'matured' city than Doha.

Omanis are good people.

good luck and go for it.
