Palestian membership in the UNESCO & the US

UNESCO’s General Conference votes to admit Palestine as Member State. 107 votes for, 14 votes against, 52 abstentions.

Now isn't voting is a form of democracy, that the US is promoting everywhere from Latin America to the Middle East, yet the US is not pleased with the decision and the voting of the members, in addition the US will cut funding the UNESCO beginning in November in which $ 30M will not be given to the UNESCO, is this cutting in funding really because of the Palestinian membership or does the US REALLY needs every penny to spend it on the crumbled economy ?

It's only democracy when the US says it is. I fail to see why people give a crap what the US thinks about foreign policy, and thankfully fewer countries are following their lead.

Congratulations to the Palestinians.

Perhaps the oil rich Gulf Nations could spare a tiny $20m to fund UNESCO? Isn't that what the royal families would spend on cars in any given week?

I am surprised that people are realizing now that the US a hypocritical state. It uses freedom, democracy, human rights, women rights, etc to promote its own agenda.

As for the US contribution to the UNESCO, the US provides 22% of the UNESCO's budget of USD 300M. The US contribution around 66M. Many Arab and Muslim countries can can pay this amount without make a dent in their budgets(Any GCC country, Algeria, Libya, Turkey, Malaysia, Iran).

This is just sheer hypocrisy of the US... they use democracy to deceive people in to getting what they want and now the real democracy is practised and they are not happy... Well, its just a matter of time before even their ardent supporters will know their true colour.
