Payment discriminiation

In any company the grade / payments of ppl go something like this.

Starting from junior level:

1. Driver / Office boy
2. Assistants
3. Supervisors
4. Officers
5. Managers

& the renumeration ranges as per the criteria & according to scale & job a person is offered.

I am working as Officer Finance & Administration in one UAE based company dealing with USA products. When I joined this company somewhere in April we were only two staff members Manager & me later on after 3/4 months we got a driver, 3 supervisors & 1 more manager. While in the interview the guy told me they are new in Qatar hence I got the idea they must not be paying very well but I joined here only because I was idle at home & I planned to work temporarily. Later on I started enjoying my new job & decided to continue & make it as my last job in my career but in the meantime I got to know that even the supervisor who is a rank less than me is getting triple of my payment & the driver's salary is almost equivalent to mine. I spoke to my Manager & showed him my concerns & spoke to my direct Manager in UAE but no one gave me any satisfying reply. Management is very happy with my work & they keep on appreciating from time to time but their unprofessionalism & discrimination in payment scale is making me lose my interest in my job. Any suggestions

Its easy to skip & go for another job as for ladies its not a problem in Qatar but staying back in the same place & demanding your rights takes lot of efforts :)

Its a choice you make. If you feel that your pay reflects your work and you are happy with it, then forget about the others and continue. If not, find another job..

logicsays, "Do not compare your salary to thers, this is not professional from your side"..

I cannot agree with you on it... consciouseffort stated that only manager and herself started the office. So at that time probably the scope of work was not clear, the budget was not defined and so on… then they started hiring new people, it means that they are getting busier, the office is growing and budget allows to spend more funds on salaries. I think in this case, consciouseffort should be given priority, and management should have brought her salary into correspondence with her status and with the cost of living which has been surely increased since she started working. But what they do is they hire new people with the higher salaries, leaving the old ones with the same salary. I noticed, it is very common practice in Qatar. That’s what exactly happening at my office as well. And I think it’s totally wrong. Also I know that instead of promoting the existing employees, company prefers to hire new people. That I cannot understand at all! I know one girl who was working for the same company for over 4 years, showed excellent results, very well respected at her office, completely dedicated to her job.. When the next level within the same department became available, she applied for this position, and .. been refused. Her educational level and experience allowed her to apply for this position… she knows the job in and out… Why did they hire a new person? ...So she left the company…. Management even asked her to stay… at the same position…insane…

Samael there is no privacy clause mentioned in the job contract & no body told me about their salaries its by chance that the person working on my pc forgot to close his sheet in usb & when i came to do some work it caught my attention. Ofcourse finding another job is an easy option but then wat's the use to keep on skipping from one job to another. I planned to make this as my last resort as this is not an established company but new & still growing. Lets see what the outcome is.

My dear its not dreamland this is reality as my junior is getting 20k so do you think this is not appropriate for me to protest on this & let them know my skills worth :). I was born & brought up in Qatar so why for the job I should seek shelter from other countries :). You might be a manager in your company but maybe they have their payscales like this wat you mentioned for yourself. BTW if you are working in QP or RG, they have payscale sheets where they pay ppl based on nationalities + experience + grade.

Got to agree with Logic on this one.

But also companies do need to regulate payscales, for their own benefit aswel as the employees. You might want to check your contract before complaining though, their might be a privacy clause which means you cannot speak about salaries with other employees, if that is case, then you will need to rethink your strategy for asking about a payrise

as per market trend it should be 18-20k??? don't you think that you are living in a "dreamland" brother??? if you can earn that money more or less in Pakistan, than you should consider about leaving Qatar and going back to your homeland...sorry but i'm working as a department manager in oil&gas business and i'm getting that much money which is reasonably okay but not very good...

Pakistani (F) - 5K

As per market trend it should be 18-20 for:

1. MBA in Banking & Finance

2. 11 years experience (major in bank then in Ras Gas)

I know that no one forced me to sign this offer & this was all on my own but at least the management should be professional enough to see that the junior is getting 3 times more than the senior officer.

I am facing two problems here one smoking second payment problem & have already started looking for an alternative but I would be happy if I retire from this job by age 60 :)

1. You accepted the offer no one forced you to

2. Do not compare your salary to thers, this is not professional from your side

3. Speak for your self and demand what you feel is your right

4. Be ready to accept the fact that your request can be denied

5. If you are ready to claim your right be ready to bear the consequences

6. Seek a job else where and when you find one quit with no regrets

Hope this helps
