I was discussing with my friend this morning, he said that he had seen the Emir and his wife in Souq Waqif without any bodyguards, walking and smiling with the people there. What a wounderful country this is.
lol - the Emir can do what he wants, but I'm sure he feels happier with his security near by!
When the military conference (or whatever it was) was on recently they were all staying at the Ritz Carlton. We were having lunch there one day and there were loads of important looking military folks in full uniform from lots of different countries. They would be sat on one table, and on a nearby table was their security detail, in full Qatari dress. The give away was their ear-pieces.
bodyguards are always there in national dress not even the Emir knows or his wife. and its normal they drive around the city some times in evening and HH Emir drives himself no Driver.
I doubt very much there were no body guards there, but even so, it's nice that they are able to walk through a public area in this way. I don't think you'd ever catch Gordon Brown wondering round Borough Market or Carnaby Street without everyone being cleared out or put behind a security cordon first!
the queen is freakin gorgeous., saw her delivering a speech in georgetown, on tv though...(there was a forum about older women dating younger guys... hmmmm...) LOL.,
soffucated sometimes when there's too much security around them. They are still people who needs to interact with other people and their status limits that.
I guess the people at Souq waqif used their camera phones just to take the Royal couple's pictures. Was planning to go last night for shiesha with a friend but changed plans and went elsewhere...too bad I missed it.

The security guards who rode on the buses with athletes, officials and VIPs at the Asian Games all wore traditional dress.
If you looked closely enough, they also had pistols strapped to their ankles.
Don't be fooled into thinking that the Emir can go wandering around at his pleasure.
Yes Azi, he told that when people saw them, they wanted to take some pictures with them and he did with great pleasure.
Even if there are bodyguard is national dress or whatever, people did not saw anything about that....
just an example, in my country, when the president go out, he has to call more then 15 CID very close to him and 1000's of police around, very scary!
That is cool..
I saw George Bush JR. walking in Villagio and no one noticed it.
He
was
dress

Qatari.
The Red_Pope is the next goodwill Ambassador to the UN.
Yes, It can be Possible.
But they must have CID with them with in civil dress.

Their actions should be applauded.
This type of attitude endears the leader to their peoples..Hope they don't change..

My guess is that the body guards were in national dress or "casual" so you didn't notice them.
.i wish to see them up close and personal...

I heard that is very normal. It really is something fantastic!
It's nice to see.. Many 'leaders" tend to put security and entourages around them to make them feel more important ..
I once saw the Queen driving her Range Rover in Windsor..
