People abusing private message facility

I was getting these PM's before this new messaging system was adopted. I don't know how the new systems works, but with the old system you would get a message in your e-mail.

I warn others not to reply to the e-mail because then these "mushrooms" as they are aptly called have your e-mail address.

He registered today and his first post was to ask if he could contact me and me to contact him...phuuleeeez...and sent me a mail in my PMB.

I joined QL because it's a friendly community forum...that's it.

Is it possible to make the 'Private Message' feature like the 'Emailing' someone feature? When you don't allow other people to e-mail you, no one can contact you or send an e-mail. Can we do the same with private messaging? Or make an 'Ban List' so we can ban some people from sending private messages to us or make a 'Trust List' where i can specify which users can I allow to send me those private messages.

SilverFern, There is no reason to be scared, just behave the same way here that you would at home. Don't go out walking at night alone, don't get in cabs alone if you've been drinking or at night, keep your eyes open and your wits about you.

Let's just ignore it but give copy emails to Qatari so he can have some civilized talk with this guys. I received similiar emails too. But so far I just ignored it. Please don't waste your time for such a thing like this. Ignore it.

I have to agree with Aisha on this one, you just have to look at the humour in these silly PM's. I mean, how sad and desperate must these guys be!

Actually, yes, he did ask that. And I think he has no idea of exactly how much he has f***ed up.

He appears not to be aware of this site's tracking facility and what that does. And how that means that I know that what he said about how he is:

"... new here, living alone. iam looking for friends..."

Is a lie that contradicts with an earlier, public, post he made about "we are a ... family" about how his wife and his two daughters are looking to hire a maid.

Sleazing is something that upsets and offends me, but this latest revelation is something that makes me angry.

You know who you are. If you're reading this, hang your head in shame you low life. You insult me, that's bad enough, but more importantly you insult your wife and daughters by behaving in this way.

Imagine, that within less than 24 hours of activating the PM feature, it has already been abused to the extent that some of our QL ladies have publicly reported it.

@ e46m3 I'd rather not provoke a public flame war by naming and shaming.

I suppose I could have just replied to the person concerned by way of PM, but maybe that would have in some way condoned it, and I certainly didn't want to start up a conversation by PM situation, I really didn't want to engage with this person about this privately, so opted for a public message.

Maybe the person concerned was genuine (although I doubt it), but I just wanted to make it clear, publicly, that I, personally, found it unacceptable.

ALL online communities with PMs face such thing.. It’s absolutely normal! You either IGNORE or NOTIFY Qatari.. Please guys let us enjoy this feature and be wise.. we are dealing with different people just like in real life..

let's send Qatari the e-mail sent to us and Qatari will either give them a stern warning. These mushrooms (sorry...but they just appeared out from nowhere) knows who they are and would definitely stay away.

To have their names/codenames (whatever) publicized would be disregarding their right of privacy. Just an opinion, but majority will decide. Or the site administrators would do something about it.
