Petrol prices in Qatar to increase starting January 15, 2016
Woqod - Qatar Fuel has announced a sudden increase in the price of premium and super petrol products effective from January 15, 2016.
Starting tomorrow, the new prices will be QAR 1.30 per litre for super 97 octane, while premium petrol will priced at QAR 1.15 riyal a litre.
The announcement from Woqod, which is responsible for the distribution of all fuels within Qatar, comes amid falling oil prices in the global market.
The last time Woqod announced a hike in petroleum prices was in January 23, 2011 when the new prices were increased to QAR1 from QAR 0.85 per litre for super 97 octane, while the price of premium petrol was increased to QAR0.85 a litre from QAR 0.60.
Petroleum products are subsidised by the Qatari government and despite the increase, refined products like petrol, diesel and kerosene remain cheaper than in the rest of the world and even some neighbouring Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states.
Has anyone seen this Woqod notice about petrol price increases?
not an easy task brit.
aafi: You'll have to cut back on the Karak then
For my 1600CC engine and 300-500km per week ill be coughing out around 10-15QP more than usual.
Brite, Not for the present scenario and for the primary car used to go work. But definitely for the secondary car used do drop children or useless shopping.
Ok.. Serious question. Will the price hike really make you drive / use your car less??
Well, price has been increased, but it also means to think about starting travel plans daily. Drive only when you need to, and think twice before making an unnecessary travel.
Not if you buy a tuk-tuk like Rizks
And everything that has to be transported within Qatar will also be 1,000% more expensive. And that applies to 90% of the products and services here. It will simply kill the economy.
why not to make 10 riyals per liter and surely the number of cars + traffic problem will get solve immediately! LOL!

All countries need to balance the budgets ... Qatar government subsidises a lot of things .. Now done of those subsidies are being removed.. Saudi, UAE are doing the same
Qatar and other GCC are oil producing countries. Oil per barrel is 29USD. They should reduce the prices instead of increasing. Also Airlines Tickets they are not reducing it instead they are increasing as well. Other Countries Air fares and taxi / bus /jeepney and train fare are less due to price reduction from oil producing countries. Now Iran starting shipping oil after UN embargo the prices will become down again to due lesser demand of oil.
Ha, ha, ha. In other countries the petrol price drops when the oil price drops.
I was expecting it after they revised the prices in nearby countries. But 1.3 QAR/super is still less i feel.
Many of the parents here are using additional car to drop their children to school is just because of cheap petrol prizes.
I would suggest them to increase it to 2 or 3 per litre. Thus, parents will think on economical way by choosing school bus and less traffic on week days.
It seems there is no effect of price hike on people OR only the rich are commenting here :D
Go Qatar!
But if you like the sun, the sand, and the sea, the khalliwalli atmosphere, wasta, and insha'allah bukra mumkin, then you are still in the right place.
For those after money, Qatar becomes less attractive.
Don't worry, your salaries will also increase by 30% in the next 100 years. But for now, you are working for less every year!
Good move.. Got to balance the books
super!!
ok it seems article got updated
how much it was for Super before ?
