Hi,
we arrive in Doha just a week ago, it is a small Chihuahua with us. I knew it is a dogs not allowed on Qatar Airways fly and we get a Turkish Airlines fly .But yesterday we went on walk with dog to Pearl and one lady stop us saying that dog not allowed here. So, is it any one know the rules or where we can walk with dog? How about Corniche? Qatara?
Can dog sit inside the bag when we coming to shopping places ?
Will be appreciated for any information

Maksim, IMHO locals are not the problem. Many generalize on the Qataris but the truth is they can turn out to be more laid back than many other GCC/Arab/Asian cultures.

Don't get fooled by the looks, anyone can shop (and wear) an Abaya anywhere.

Thanks a lot every one for reply! So, we will avoid crowded places, we will try walk him in dark time , less people can see us walking. No shops at all((

It is not many local people at Cornishe, I don’t think it will be problem there. I noticed mainly local ladyes get irritated by our dog. May be Iam wrong..

Thanks HelenMS for point me to good vet. clinics and Ill remember about poisoned bites!

Rules aren't clear, but please avoid massive crowded areas, especially shopping malls.

It also happens that you might see someone doing it over and over and over and come the day when you decide to bring your dog, you could find someone who might get irritated.

Dogs are still 'new' to this part of the world, just exercise some caution.

at maksim897, Formatted Soul, Helen Ms - im sorry i did not know dogs arent allowed. i commented as i have seen & even touched them at cornich! thanks for correcting me :)

totally agree with HelenMs about Parkview, they are simply amazing!! they seem to know quite alot than the other vets (I have tried a few vets here for my babies, yet Prkview is superb!!). Dr. Joe & Mike, they are the best!!

Hello there and welcome to Doha!

You cannot walk your little dog around where the shops are and on the Marina at the Pearl but you can walk him/her along the driveway/road to all the apartment buildings but not on the beach. There is a footpath there and many dog owners in the Pearl are walking their dogs every day. You should pick up anything that the dog does along the way! :)

You cannot walk your dog on the Corniche. It is forbidden. Everyone who has a dog here in Doha (and there are a lot of expats that do!) - we all have the same problem - where to go? All the parks here ban walking dogs too so don't try to do that either.

You can really only walk your dog around your compound villa and it must be on a leash at all times. You can look for a vacant lot to walk nearby your home but there have been some sad incidences where dogs have been poisoned with poison baits - we think they have been put out to kill the rats around as we do live in the desert and there's a lot of rubbish from construction hanging around for them to nest in. So be careful to watch your dog wherever you walk!

You can also drive down to the beach beyond Wakra - some expats go there to let their dogs have some freedom running and enjoying themselves. If you do a search in here (QL) under "Dog Walking" you will see some forum topics.

It is (to me) a sad fact of life living here in Doha that the Municipality of Interior at this stage does not appreciate our dilemma for walking our dogs. And it probably won't change for some time, if ever.

I can recommend two wonderful veterinaries - either Parkview Pet Centre close to Landmark Shopping Centre or Qatar Veterinary Centre opposite the Villagio Shopping Centre. They both have the latest equipment, the best vets and take great care of your dog. Make sure you keep vaccinations up-to-date.

I have a little Maltese, Suzie and we survive walking through the dust, dirt and rocks around our compound. So boring to walk but this is our life here!

Good luck!

i have seen dogs at cornich. I have seen a board at katara beach that animals arent allowed & im sorry got no idea about P.Q!

I understand your concern about the pet, yet I dont think it is a good idea ( nor that its allowed to ) to take it to the shopping malls as it could create huge problems.

always watch your back here! people will try to create problems even for what you are wearing, not only for your pet :)

have a pleasant stay!
